Alot of it has to do with kinetic energy and inertia, a normal air intake have some features which quiet the intake by slowing it down and eliminating pulses, installing an open intake allows the air to rush in faster therefore in some cars alter the filling of the combustion chamber making the engine spin faster and able to move the power curve up, however on anything bigger than 3.0 liters i doubt you wil be able to notice a big diference as the ignition and fuel map in the ECM will adjust for this

just for reference, i took out my filter panel from the airbox, and it went slower! seeing as i have f.i on my zoomer i thought it would not be the case? was not any louder tho..

Hmm...sounds like your F.I. system is not able to adapt which isn't a good sign. Perhaps it'll be more adaptable with the Polini CDI as that re-maps it.

i will double check why it was slower, was not what i xpected, maybe it was more windy than i realised? (i'm quite broad) also i just thought, my oxygen sensor is still not inserted into the yoshi, tho tomorrow it will be,(still connected at the plug tho)
i've had the coolest bung made for it in stainless, even has a hex on it, even nicer than taysters one! will try the filter thing again when my oxy is in.

:-/You have a closed loop F.I. so it need the info from the O2 sensor to do any adjustment, if you take out the sensor it goes into limp home mode, which is a set adjustment so you at least can ride the scoot home and get it fix, installing the sensor back will allow the ECM to do its work ;D

well, i got the bung brazed to my yoshi, thats the good news, but the guy made what we call here, 'a complete and utter pigs ear of it !' the bung itself was the sweetest bit of engineering i've ever seen, but this guy who has done some small jobs for my business before just made it and that area of the pipe look like shite. the bung sits around 2mm over the pipe and is got the messiest blobs of brazing ever around it and everywhere, even streaked down the pipe! i am soooo gutted, felt like decking the guy,but you cant do that for any reason like that. i thought i was being filmed..... but no more warning light coming on sometimes for the fi. performance is the same it seems thru the range. but i think without the 0xy in was maybe running at full richness almost?.cos was a little sooty in the end pipe. i may go and get another downpipe or re-chrome it ,as it looks that bad. will re-try it with-out the filter soon.

Once you get your 02 sensor working your scoot will run fine ;D

I am in interested in the stock cam timing (exhaust side). I wanted to use it for the calculations for a custom exhaust system.
Great forums, thanks for your efforts, they are appreciated.
Just scored our first Ruckus this weekend!

I check, could not find the specific exhaust timing BTDC and ATDC anywhere -
I'll did out the degree wheel and see what I can come up with
Thanks

So let's start just after the spark plug fires and send the piston down on its power stroke, the exhaust valve will open 20 degrees before the end of the power stroke, will remain open through the exhaust stroke and close 10 degrees into the intake stroke, There you go, 20 before bottom dead center is when it opens and it will close at 10 after top ded canter

Hahahaha - Sorry, I did read that.
So, in theory, we would want 18" (from the valve) at .64"ID and then almost 19" at .86"ID for optimum tune at 8500RPM . . . . .
Hummmm, pretty long exhaust . . . . Going to have to coil around a lot.
I have seen some go-kart engines that looped around a lot - Hummmmmmmmmmm

how much work is it to install the oversize pistons? Do u have a shop or a garage where you do installs? What would it take to send in a motor and get everything done and sent back?

I have a complete big bore motor that I'm selling right now....you mail me your engine + $400 and I'll send you a complete big bore engine in return. I do have a few people interested though so by the time you read this it may be sold.

You need to take your engine apart and have the cylinder machined to acept the bigger piston. I do not have a shop, i work on a dealership as a lead tech And the cost of overhauling a nd machine an engine is about 400 bucks, so it pays to do it your self

Whatever you do, don't take it to a Honda dealer. You won't escape for under $800 in labour.

Hello all you rucksters, i have an 07 nps50s, im 6'0 and about 270, i get 40mph in the wind and hit my rev limiter at 43 to 45mph. I'm interested in getting more acceleration without giving up top speed. anyone got any words of wisdom for me? After reading a lot of the posts on this site ( this is THE ruckus site btw, love all the info i got so far) i have been hesitant to do any mods for fear of rejetting. And with my current performance compared to the reports from other rucksters with older models im thinking only a big bore kit will do anything for me. well any idea or thoughts from you all would rock.
