Thanks, at this point I'm not too concerned about performance, it was mainly for looks, but who know. It's hard to measure 0.04hp with my butt dyno But I got a part in the mail today that should make a huge differance! I was all set for a huge in depth How-To and I can't get to my Ruck. It's in my girls garage, she is out of town and the stupid remote opener won't work!!! Arrggg, so my Ruck is trapped in her garage and I have this to install!! KP The variator spacer is for scale, this thing is alot bigger than I thought it was going to be...

Awesome! I'll be chain smoking until the results are in. Hopefully you get the same results Sanjuro did.

Got the CDI installed, can't ride just yet, still too many FEET of snow, for those of you in warmer climates, I hate you! Also updated the web site, it's lame but I'm lazy... www.thepiz.com/Ruckus/honda_ruckus.htmKP

Well I broke out of the side streets today and made it onto a main road. Got to run my usual test strip with the CDI installed and....hmm.
It's got pep down low and is decent through the mid range but I lost all my top end. Won't break 45mph now no matter what. It is rather cold out about 30 degrees but that should matter much. The exhaust stinks so I'm thinking I'm running fat. Here is the recipe, sticky exhuast, lower top speed with CDI, and good low to mid range power, runs better when it's warm out. I'm thinking I need to go down a spot on the main. Any thoughts? I should just park the silly think till April.

I'm guessing your bike will need to be re-jetted too. Before my CDI install the bike was running decently, but not perfectly with the addition of the BB. The CDI smoothed everything out and it's now jetted just about right. I think your initial jetting for the BB had to compensate for the lack of a CDI, and that performance mods really need to be done hand in hand with a CDI. I know I'm sold on that idea that Jason from BSS tried to reinforce.

would a lean mixture make stinky exhaust fumes too?

So the weather warmed up today to a balmy 34 degrees. I gave the ruck a valve adjust and swapped out the fuel. Ethanol doesn't like cold weather and honestly I won't really need the detonation protection it offers till it starts getting hot out. So with a fresh valve adjust and a tank of shiny new 91 octane I decided to try the new CDI out. On the first run I hit 8420 RPMs and 45 mph tops and it was running like poo up top, popping and running rough. So I brought it back, swapped a 90 main in and tried again. I hit 8900 RPMs or about 48 mph. Better but not great. I got it home and decided to tune the mixture screw and set the idle. This is where cussing came in. For the life of me I can't get this thing to idle. It sits at 2800 and when I drop the idle screw a fraction (at all) it goes to 1500 and then dies. So I gave up. There really isn't any sense in tuning in this cold weather anyway unless I plan on riding in it, and with all that Mag-Chloride on my Yosh I'm thinking NO. So tomorrow night I'm going to tear down and send a bunch of stuff out for paint. I'll just have to wait until May to ride and I guess I'm ok with that for now.

I haven't been able to get mine to idle well either but I did tweak the idle mix screw a little and it seems less crappy now. My theory is that my air/fuel mix at idle was so crappy that half the time it just wants to die so you need to crank the idle screw way up to give it more throttle just so it runs but then when you do this and the engine runs a little better for whatever reason then suddenly your idle is way too high. My idle is either around 3800 RPM at which point it engages the rear clutch OR it's coughing along at 1200 RPM. Anyways, I think the solution is to dial in the air/fuel mix with the idle mix screw first and then do the other screw to set the amount of throttle.

Lookin' good (except I hate the single headlight deal). Rawk on. I actually sold my headlight bracket to a girl who wrecked hers. The single headlight was out of necessity. I'll do something else later. KP

I concur...it turned out great ;D
I'll have to think about getting mine powdercoated once I finish up a few of my current projects. Did you strip the stock paint or just paint over it? And would you consider a swap program for this job or are you not interested in getting more done?
