The cam is showing up in Greeley today. Of course it's Monday so the dealer is closed and I can't get new shims! OF COURSE!!! Oh well what's another day...I also noticed today that I've had my Ruck for just over 1 month now, with all the changes I've made in only 5 weeks that has to be some kind of record, maybe?

yeah that is really impressive...especially considering the amount of fixing up you had to do at the start.
About the shims, a ghetto technique that actually works pretty well is if you need a 245 shim (2.45mm) and you only have, say a 220, then you can take your 0.25mm feeler guage arm and cut a little circle out of it. Then drop that in under the 220 shim and Voila! a 245mm shim. I've used this technique off and on over the last year or two with no problems...just don't put the 220 shim in and then the homemade shim or the thin shim will slip out.

I'm headed out there now, I'm going to see what I get with the 4 shims I have, I'm thinking I might be able to use the EX one from the other engine and then move some stuff around. I wish I had a "dealer set" of these to mess with. But when in need, just listen to DD!

So after messing with this thing all last night and all tonight I learned one thing....keep it in your pants when you get a new part!! Let me explain: For all the hard work I did I was so excited to get the cam in that I put the darn thing in 180 off, MORON The lesson here is take your time, think, do it right, OR do it twice like I did!! The valves still need to be adjusted but I am going to get the right shims before I do that. I mostly solved the idle issue but it's still a little funny, I can't expect it to be perfect with all these mods. And I ended up leaning out the entire system. I'm now at a 40/80 combo, which proves that every scooter is differant! So, I'll get him back together tomorrow and try to ride it and see if anything is better/differant. I'm NOT riding right now it's too freaking cold! KP

IHAR, I was mistaken when I told you my jetting setup was a 42/90...I checked it last night and I'm actually running a 42/82 which is quite a bit leaner. I'm not sure why I thought I had a 90 in there...
Anyways, that means we aren't too far off and since you think you're running lean our gas needs might be rather close. Anyways, nice job on cutting out those feeler guage shims...they look a lot nicer than mine. What did you use? A hole punch?
Also, I wouldn't expect that much of a difference with the cam...it helps but it's a mild difference.

Yep three hole punch! works PERFECT!! I'm hoping that the lack in performance last night was due to the super low temps, it was around 20F with windchill...

It worked, but fine would not be the word I would use....My top speed was back to Pre-Big Bore levels and it would NOT idle. I do agree with you though that it does seem like it shouldn't make any difference logically, but I can tell you that it did for certain. I just got back from a trip to the gas station (caffeine fix, I have a 10 page paper due Fri) and this thing RIPS!!! The take off is wicked, even in scooter terms. My midrange (20mph-30) is a bit weak and so is the top end but it is only 22 degrees F here right now. I'm hoping with some more leaning out and nicer weather I should be hitting the limited with ease! Yeah for fast Ruckii!!! KP

Here are some pictures of the new tach. I'm not done, I need to find some 1/4" conduit and re-route the wires, but I like it so far, and it works great! KP
