I'm still waiting for spring to show up....we got a big dump of snow this past weekend which sucked...my CBR is almost completely buried in the snowbank (courtesy of the local snow removal service ) I got a new taillight for my Beluga from a guy in Europe. This is how the Beluga was designed but DOT regulations mean that Yamaha needed to toss on an uglier taillight in North America. The sides of this taillight are actually the blinkers but I'm missing the sockets so I'm hoping to mod some old blinkers I have laying around to fit inside so I can ditch the ugly blinkers too. Before: After: And a few more shots: Oh and to all the Canucks out there....you can see a picture of yours truely in this months issue of Cycle Canada in the article on the Mad Bastard Rally. I'm the one on the last page hunched over working on the Go Go Boys Ruckus.

Wow, that tail light looks sweet. the bike is getting real nice, cant wait to see when you find the blinkers and get rid of those things. (don't they have flush front ones as well?) Really improves the lines and your plate is in the right place. Really much better!

Thanks guys....I'm itching to mod the blinkers sockets to fit inside so I can get rid of those ugly stock rear ones but I'm so busy with school right now that it'll probably have to wait atleast until the weekend. I might grind the tabs off the rear rack now that they are no longer needed but they do seem handy for hooking bungie cords to, so I'm not sure. And yes bowery4, they do have flush front ones as well which are way way nicer but I haven't been able to source any so far. Those front ones were only used in Japan and it's hard to get used parts from Japan because they don't really use eBay like the rest of the world. I'm not sure what sites they use to sell their used stuff but the language barrier is quite a hurdle...I'm keeping my eyes open though. As far as scanning the pages from Cycle Canada. Actually someone else already did that so you can check out the scans here: www.madbastardrally.com/2009/articles/Cycle_Canada/index.htmlI'm on the last page and Donny from our Go Go Boys team is shown on page 4 eating the Timbits.

I can't believe I still haven't tested out this scooter to see how fast it goes....I finished it months ago but this winter has been brutal in my area. The longer I have to wait the more I dream and get my hopes up.
My little bro turns 16 in two weeks and he's getting a scooter....maybe a Ruckus. He's also looking a few other scooters but it would be nice if he could keep up with my other Brother ('83 Honda Mascot 80 does 75km/hr) and me (hopefully more than 70km/hr). He's also considering a Kymco Super 9 which actually uses the Honda Dio motor and goes 80km/hr unrestricted.

I'm pumped! It was +6 C here today and sunny (that's about 40 F for you wierd americans!). While still a little nippy, that's way hotter than it has been for several months now. I definately was feeling the scooter fever today. I went and cleaned my scooter workshop (aka the spare bedroom) and tidied all my spare parts and boxes and cleaned up all the oil & grime stains on the rug so it's looking pristine in there now. All I need is a few more hot sunny days and the snow will melt enough to uncover my scooter parking spot (aka the grass beside my car parking spot) and then I can bring my scooter out of the apartment.

I summoned all my creative juices today and found a way to modify the stock external rear blinkers so I could use them inside my new taillight. I basically removed the socket out of inside the blinkers and modified it to fit inside the sides of the taillight/blinker unit I got from Europe. Since these pics were taken I removed the unnecessary rack tabs for the old taillight/blinkers so it's even cleaner still: Before: After: All I can think to do now before the seasons starts is toss in a fuel filter and then I'll be ready to rejet and go like stink!

;D damm that is so much cleaner, is the plan still to have a 16 year old drive it? :0 thanks for your help Dan but no yamaha dealers here have that stuff, only things for yamis made here so, texas it is. but that is okay, just knowing I can get it is great. Finished painting the rest of the parts today, Just reassembly now ( and waiting on the forks). Thanks again

You're welcome and good luck with the parts! Here is my Beluga again now that I've grinded off that cumbersome brakelight bracket...I'm very pleased: I'm thinking now that the Repsol decal should probably go since it's half cut off already and it's not the real deal but rather a Chinese imitation sticker from a minibike.

I agree about the sticker but didn't want to say anything as you may of had an attachment to it. Any plans for the front blinkers, they could be mounted inside as well, no?

In Japan (where the Beluga originally debued), the front blinkers were integrated into the body as shown below. For whatever reason (DOT regulations?) Yamaha opted to give us ugly protruding blinkers in the rest of the world. I'm hoping to one day pick up a set of these integrated Japanese blinkers but so far I haven't made any progress because eBay isn't very popular in Japan. I do have a few ideas I'm going to explore when I get a chance to possibly scare up some of these blinkers.

wow yeah, those would be nice as well, only things that made that bike kinda ugly in the first place are the lights. Do you think Yamaha dealers in Japan can get parts for it? I was thinking to have southtech from the tr board look for somethings for me. I don't know if he will agree to it though, plus he'd probably charge pretty good for it, if he did. Why would they kill the looks of a bike for (supposed) safety like that? Damm the designers must just get "edit profanity" about that kind of "edit profanity". I think we need someone in Japan like him for our scoots. My guy who is getting my front forks said he ordered them and they should be here next week, I guess HE found some way to order new ones! I started putting things together today and ran the bike. Took the cover off the magneto thing and checked the shoes and springs and stuff, everything looks brand new. I kind of wasn't expecting to find a problem there (just easy to check), I am now pretty convinced that my noise is coming from the pinion drive thingy or the gears or bearings that connect to it, seems the most likely culprit as it was changing gears slow. Still worried I might strip the screw heads (on the cover). Wish I had a long stethoscope to use as I ride it (used to use one when I was a mechanic, good thing to have). I will try the synth oil first though. It was purring, misses being run I suspect. What is that pan/dish under the front for? Got a leak? The weather break there yet, when you going to get to ride it? It is like 30c+ here everyday, and I have to work downstairs in front of the building. I am not complaining though. I don't miss snow in the least and I get to ride everyday.

Ha! That pan dish under the front is just for me to toss stuff in when I'm working on the scooter. It's magnetic so the bolts/nuts don't go anywhere.
Regarding the weather here, it's plus 2 C here today (35F) and it's supposed to hover around freezing for the next week or so. There's still a lot of snow that needs to melt so it'll likely be the end of the month before it's outside and rolling. I did install a universal fuel filter in the gas line yesterday and I changed the jetting (richer) to make it safer when I do test it out. Then I fired it up again and for the first time it actually idled quite normally after I shut the choke off....very exciting! I couldn't let it run too long though or it would stink up the apartment and my wife would notice when she gets home.
About the front blinkers, contacting Southtek was actually the 'idea I'm going to explore'. Just before I surfed over to RC I contacted him and asked him if he can get me the blinkers....so we'll see. Hopefully he has a Yamaha dealer nearby because if he does than this should be easy for him.

Wow if we both send him to the dealer maybe he will be more likely to go, (know anyone else who needs something?) I will send him a message as well. Today he posted TR that he is backlogged on orders on though. Wow, Buffalo must still be cold too, I enjoyed the pictures you posted of your ride before it got cold. I wanted to buy an Elite that was for sale here for around 300$ but it was sold already I also have a bungie net on my Zoomer one in the back, (although Japanese bikes have little tab things to hook it to, I am thinking to start a thread about different things about the Japanese bikes, do North american bikes have holes by the taillights?) and a spidy kind on my basket, I can carry 5 bags of grogries on my scoot (which is one of the first reasons I bought it). A pizzahut pizza goes on top of the basket easy too. There is also a helmet hook on the front middle bar under the seat, comes in handy as well.

No, the North American Ruckus's don't have the holes near the rear blinkers. We have a completely different taillight bracket welded to the rear frame and then the blinkers also connect to that. We also don't have those knobs on the side of the seat frame (near the front) and we don't have the hook under the front of the seatframe.

"edit profanity", I don't miss that, hope your almost finished with that "edit profanity".I was watching the news tonight seeing the flooding in Missuorri (my girlfriend called it misery, how right she is, in her Thai messed up way of speaking English) and all I could think is wow no riding in that. sorry about the slight hijack above. I made a post on my own for the comparision. Can't believe you don't have that bike in the work room too Dan.
