I picked up a fixer-upper today for $300. Hopefully I can get it purring soon and then sell it for a profit and be one step closer to affording another Ruckus. Here in Ontario, Canada any scooter than runs is worth at least $700 so hopefully it's just a matter of cleaning the carb and then taking care of a few issues like the siezed brake cables. It's a 1984 Yamaha Beluga (aka the Riva 80 in the USA), it's a 2-stroke 80cc that should go 45mph once it's running. I dunno why but I just have a thing for really ugly 80's scooters. toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-motorcycles-1984-Yamaha-Beluga-80cc-Scooter-W0QQAdIdZ16679922

Yeah it's hideous That's half the fun though....driving around on the most rediculous thing. I haven't gotten this running yet but I've done some stuff like cleaning the carb and tossing a new battery in. It should be close to running...

needs twin headlamps to even start looking cooler, ;D but i think iknow what you mean by getting something like this, a kind of means of defiance to riding a bike thats too normal? but good luck and keep us informed. btw does it have a name? i would call it ezmerelda.

For now I'm just calling it the 'Beluga'. That's it's name and I think it's hilarious that Yamaha named one of the smallest vehicles on the road after a whale.
I got a service manual for it off of eBay that arrived yesterday but I'm not sure when I'm going to have a chance to work on it next....it's at my parents house (30min away) so I need a good chunk of free time to make it worth heading over there.

Scooters are like fine wine...an acquired taste And judging from the scooters you buy and look at, you must be into Boone's Farm.

This thing is almost in running condition now...I put a little gas in the cylinder via the spark plug hole and it ran for a second so the problem has gotta be just an air/fuel mix issue. I guess I gotta clean the airfilter and dig a little deeper into the carb.
Once I get it running there are a bunch of things I need to tune up (ie. new tires and cables) and then my little brother is buying it off of me...he's 16 in the spring so this will be his first ride.
