Just received an e-mail from Jason at BattleScooter that they now have the leg shields for the Big Ruckus in stock. Has anyone had items shipped to Canada from Jason and if so what were the Border Agent fees?? I am keen to get these Leg Shields, will be a nice addition especially this time of year. The price is $200.00 US, not too expensive.

You're looking at 15% duty plus a 5$ handling fee. They ship via USPS and it should take no more than 2 wks.

Hi Dandy Dan, I have had heavy agent fees in the past but it seems you have had more recent experience at importing. Is the 15% duty in addition to the GST?? or are you qouting the Ontario + GST. If it's duty +handling+GST+Shipping then the legshields will cost approx $320 CA. I am waiting for confirmation of the shipping cost from Jason. Just checked the shields on the Honda Japan site and they fit beautifully, sure would provide that extra protection that is presently missing, can't understand why honda doesn't include these plus a windscreen on the BR, crazy. For anyone that hasn't seen the Leg Shields here is the URL for Honda Japan. www.honda.co.jp/PS250/utility/accessory1/index.html

For anyone that hasn't seen the Leg Shields here is the URL for Honda Japan. www.honda.co.jp/PS250/utility/accessory1/index.htmlI live in Winnipeg, MB, and received my leg shields about 6 weeks ago. I haven't installed them yet because I couldn't get the screw out of the parking brake. Anyway, if I recall correctly, I paid 254.00 for the leg shields -- this was with the exchange. Then I paid GST (7%) and PST (7%) as well as duty. I can't remember exactly what the duties were, but I recall thinking that it was a lot -- maybe the 15% mentioned by another poster is accurate. So, in the end, yes, the 200.00 leg shields end up being around 300.00 +/- Canadian. If you get yours installed, let us know how it went. I will have to wait until riding season again so that I can get someone to loosen the screw. I am almost at the point of stripping it.

Maybe I can help y'all out here...Having Ebayed for quite a while now I know a few tricks... First of all...Unless you buy from your own province, there is no way you should be paying PST. Second...Don't bother ordering from Battlescooter, cut out the middleman. All they do is omport itinto the U.S. and then export to Canada. I plan on getting them myself, but seeing as we are getting a dump of snow tonight(Toronto) that could weel be around until March..lol, I am ordering them next year. Here's what I am doing. I am fortunate to have a Japanese friend that can translate, as well, she has friends in Japan and here's what I do. I send them money via PayPal to friend in Japan. They buy the shields. They package plainly , mark as 'gift' and mark value at about 75.00. (Making sure to remove all documentation , which can be mailed easily separately).Have them ship it regular if you REALLY want to save money (but will take about a month) , or airmail. Total cost: List plus about an additional $30 I've done this a few times with cameras and worked like a charm! BTW...aren't you other canucks getting any snow? lol... Hmmm...will have to put up a post...

I looked at the parking brake but can't see the screw you refer to, is it necessary to remove this in order to install the shields?? I thought they would simply attach to the frame and foot rests, where do they attach on the left side where there is no hand brake??
I would appreciate any explanation regarding the installation before i order them, thanks.

And yes, from the instructions provided, it looks like its quite the procss to install the shields. There appears to be a couple of holes that need to be drilled as well. All of the instructions are in Japanese (of course) but the pictures seem pretty self explanatory. Like I wrote earlier, I haven't actually installed them yet, but let me tell ya', if I can do it, anybody can do it! I am so looking forward to getting them installed. I say, go for it -- you'll figure it out.

Silverwind, I'd really like the windsheild that is shown on this site. www.honda.co.jp/PS250/utility/accessory1/index.html Do you know if it's available through Battlescooter? I thought it was deleted from the Honda accessory page. I have emailed them, but NEVER get a reply. Can you ask them for me? The windsheild would work with the third light on my, BR it would fit right behind it. Would look AWESOME.

izzy, I like that windscreen also but when Jason at Battlescooter told me that he can get it but the cost would be over $300 US i decided to take his advice and put a Slipstreamer on the BR for around $100 CA. The intermediate size that i have is very similar to the Japanese model and your third light would still work, check out my photo on my posting " My Big Ruckus is just great. It also fits on the frame in a similar manner to the Japanese model and i posted a detail photo of my set up on a separate posting "Windshield for the Big Ruckus". If you don't mind the cost i think the Japanese version is probably the better screen and i admit it really looks sharp, and because of the moulding it can sit down lower and provide better protection, works well with the leg shields too.

Just thought I would add my two cents worth on the leg guards. I just received 3 sets of leg guards as a gift from a friend in Japan and installed 2 sets today. They are easy to install, just take your time and look at the pictures on the instructions. I converted the metric measurements to inches to simplify installation. The only problem I had was with the two push pins installed on either side of the cooling air intake. These pins are a joke. I went to the local hardware store and purchased two of the rubber nut-certs that are used on the upper end of each shield and installed them in place of the push-pins. They are 6-32 Thread and require a 5/16 inch hole to be drilled. The guards look great and my buddy took his for a ride (40 degrees F) and said they work great. When I get a chance I will take some pics and post here.

Hey Leek:
Thanks for the info. on installing the leg shields -- very helpful. When you take pics, can you take a few closeups as well?
Did your friend in Japan see any handguards for the BR? Just curious as to the existence/availability of the handguards.

Hi gagetgirl,
The handguards are on the Honda Japan site so i would assume that Battlescooter can get them also on order, i am going to drop Jason an e-mail beacause they would be nice to have together with the leg shields.
And Leek,
I would also be interested to see some close up photo's indicating the installation details for the leg shields, i agree they do look great on the Honda web site, nicely finish off the BG look and add a little more comfort.

I have emailed Battlescooter twice regarding the handguards. I haven't received a response, and its been well over a month. I have pretty much given up on Battlescooter. Even though it is pretty much the only source for true Honda BR accessories, I just can't deal with the inconsistency in terms of service (i.e., returning email). I was talking to a local Susuki dealer who said that they will hook me up with some handguards -- even if they have to make a custom mount for them. Same thing with windshield. I will find something locally.

Hi gagetgirl,
I am very happy with the Slipstreamer windshield that you can see on my thread "the big ruckus is just great" and the detailed photo of the installation on the thread " windshield for the Big Ruckus".
I agree the response time from Battlescooter is appalling, it was more than a month before i got a reply on the leg shields, i hope they are better when an order is actually placed.

Hi gagetgirl, I am very happy with the Slipstreamer windshield that you can see on my thread "the big ruckus is just great" and the detailed photo of the installation on the thread " windshield for the Big Ruckus". Yes, I have admired your windshield, and have looked into the slipstreamer models. The only thing that I am concerned about is the height of the windshield. I am kinda short (about 5'5") and don't want a shield that's too high. But, again, you and numerous other people have recommended the Slipstreamer. I think I will do some mockup shields at different heights, and then try them on my BR. Good luck with getting the legshields. I think it was about a month+ between the time I ordered my shields, and the time I received them.

Good afternoon Gagetgirl. I haven't seen any hand guards for the Big Ruckus. I have seen some on other bikes, motocross, dirt bikes etc. I have a number of pictures of my installed leg guards but don't know how to post them for your viewing pleasure. I also have the Slipstreamer windshield on mine and my wifes ruckus, it is the Spitfire model. It clamps to the handlebars and can be moved up and down depending on your height. My wife is only 5' 2" and it works great for her. Maybe someone can tell me how to post pics and I will get it done.

Hi leek, This is the easiest way to post your pic's: "Go to photobucket.com/and set up a free account. Try to keep your posted pix to 250KB. Post your pix on photobucket from your hard drive. Under the pix you post you will see three lines of text. Copy the third line "img" then just paste this in the body of your message on Ruckus Central, directly in the message body, no need to use any items on the tool bar. Hit preview and see if it posted properly and then submit it. Good luck, tedsmini Moderator" You have to set up an account but it's free.
