Does the engine oil always look like chocolate syrup? Or does it slowly lighten up over time?

When it's fresh it doesn't. After a while it gets dark.

I am new to all of this and I am about to do my first oil change. I was reading the Manual and it says to use 10w30. I've been reading some of the posts and many have stated to use 10w40. I live in Michigan. Also the manual requires you to use a torque wrench. Do I really need to go buy one of these?

I used 10w-30 in my last oil change doesn't seem to hurt it. About the torque wrench you don't need it, but be very careful when putting it in. Because it has aluminum threads they can strip very easy. So what I do is put it in finger tight and then put a wrench on it and get it a little tighters but not a ton maybe like a flat or 2.

So is the oil that HOnda recommends, Pro Honda GN4, for wet clutch? The reason why I ask, is that I went to the local auto shop and asked the guy if they carry Pro Honda GN4 motorcycle oil. He said no but gave me the Valvoline 10w40 motorcycle oil which he says is the equivalent. Now the oil is for wet clutch, is this ok to use also?

Typically I only drive 1.5 to 2 miles at a time. Back and forth to work and thats it.

I would describe ordinary old oil as "black coffee" color. The only time I described oil as looking like Chocolate syrup was a Chevy blazer I had, with a slow head gasket leak. The antifreeze makes oil look like Chocolate syrup. You can check this by looking for bubbling antifreeze in your reserve tank.

chocolate syrup to me is thick... blow head isnt thick as syrup... syrup to me is sludge... not changing your oil regularly.
chocolate milkshake is fluffy... thick enough for a straw but not thick enough for a spoon... milkshake like is a blown head gasket...
Its all in the eyes of the beholder... or pics if ya post em

But if you go to the Cook Out in a wedding dress, they'll give you food for free.
