What up?
I just got me a 07' Ruckus yesterday and made some moves to pick up a CDI, Variator, Pod Filter, jets and some of that other good stuff off BattleScooter.
Anyway, until I recieve all my stuff I'm riding around Brooklyn and NYC learning all about my scooter.
My plan of attack into Manhattan is the Williamsburg bridge which I've done hundreds and hundreds of times on my track bike and the gradient of the bridge isn't all that bad. I rode over for the first time on the Ruckus and was a little surprised and "unzippy" it seemed. I could factor in the fact that my scooter had about 5 miles on it and it was still getting broken in or that going 34 mph is about what I can expect going uphill.
My question how should I jet with my pod filter to get the most out of my take off and top speed without scarificing the mid performance?
Again, I'm brand new to this.

Out of the box your "07 does pretty good. Top speed on flats should be about 45 mph (so I hear), up hill, 34 mph sounds good. Honda has the performance pretty much dialed in perfect for stock configuration.
Don't expect to add much perfomance with a new filter or jetting. Jetting is just to get back your original performance. An aftermarket variator should help with acceleration and maybe add a mph or two on the top. All a CDI will really do is increase the redline, but you you're just asking for trouble if you exceed 10,000 RPM.
I'd start with just a variator (Battlescooter has Polini which people like) and go from there. Do one performance mod at a time so you can see what makes a difference.
Good luck, and report back often

I'm noticing better performance now that I'm riding more and more.
I was still a little unimpressed with the way it took me so long to get up to speed on the Queensboro bridge last night.
Thanks BlackRuk, I'm going to see what I can do this week in terms of installing each part at a time.
Will let you know.

All I can say is you must have a pair of brass ones to be riding a Ruckus over the Queensboro bridge at night! ;D

Blackruks advise is right on....the intake is a bit restrictive but not much and mainly at lower RPMs. If you toss the pod filter on it'll flow better off the line but about the same on the top end because the valves and ports are a tighter bottleneck. When rejetting, you need to get enough gas that it doesn't lean out off the line but not so much that the top end becomes rich and dies off. If you can get to the same top speed with the pod filter you'd be doing well.
I'd suggest doing up a size with the slow jet (to a 38) and then try going up to an 80 main jet. If you go much bigger than that your top end and fuel milage will go to crap.

This place is my #1 spot for my information and knowledge base for a noob like me!
I'm definitley going to mess with the jetting and possibly the intake at a later date.
But for now it's a CDI and Variator to install.
I do the QB late at night cause I work late nights. And lemme tell ya' the wind is ridiculous.
I've been over the Williamsburg, that's not so bad....
Actually I've been talking to a bunch of motorcyclists and they pretty much have no idea whether or not riding a scoot on a bridge is legal. It'd be interesting to see what you guys thought.

Where I'm at, you can ride it anywhere you can ride a car except for divided highways (ie. interstates). I ride mine all the time on 80km/hr (50mph) back roads. Why would a bridge be illegal? I'm sure the speed limit isn't like 90mph.

I wouldn't know why it'd be illegal but every person I've encountered has given me a cockeyed look about saying riding on NYC bridges is legal.
I'm going to ask the fuzz.

I guess you could check out the NYDMV website... I dunno. As far as I know, in NC, they allow a moped on any road other than like interstate highways.

I didn't see anything about bridges when I looked around the NY DMV's website...
