I realize that hoping for performance gains from a spark plug is pretty lame cuz even if there is a difference it's super minor...however I still like to buy cool gadgets for my bike and since I've already got the H.O. ignition coil, wire and spark grounder I may as well get the last link in the chain. I've read in a bike magazine that the only plug they've found that actually improves performance is the splitfire plug and they think it's just because the larger electrode takes up more space in the cylinder so it increases your compression slightly. Does anyone have an opinion on this plug? I'm not sure if they make a model that fits the Ruckus as it's not listed in their catalog but they list plugs for a wack of other Honda 50's so perhaps something fits. Anyways, here's the plug: They list plugs in their catalog for the XR50R, NSR50R, Dream 50R, CRF50F and a bunch of older Honda 50's.

How much is a 'wack'? Is it more then a plethera? Anyway, here is a page with a cross referance for plugs. www.gadgetjq.com/spark_plug_cross_reference_motorcycle.htmThey list the CR9EH-9 which is our super plug and the factory (stock) plug for almost the entire Honda CBR line. They say there isn't a Splitfire, however, you could get a plug with a shorter depth (ours is 0.75) that might work, which would negate the gains from more compression (if there really are any). Hope that helps! BTW I noticed a differance with my side gapped plug. KP

Thanks for the info on the side gapped plug and the great link... I've also seen/heard about a plug with 2 electrodes that may not work better but it does seem like it would take up even more space. I'll see if I can find that.

They list the CR9EH-9 which is our super plug....They say there isn't a Splitfire. Dang...they say there aren't any other plugs unless I'm viewing it wrong. I've found two listings for CR9EH-9 all of which don't show any other compatable plugs and one listing for CR8EH-9 (our std plug) and one listing for CR7EH-9 (cold weather plug) . According to the service manual we can also use the Denso plug U24FER9 for standard riding or U27FER9 for extended high speed riding. Also, in the compatability chart there is a plug called the CR9EHVX-9 which has the same name as our plug except for the addition of the 'VX' which judging from the specs means that it's a platinum plug. Is it okay to use that? If so, that adds a few more options like the 4302 (high speed) and 4303 (regular) from 'Autolite'.

Was checking out Tokyo parts and came up with this....... The part # is CR8EHIX-9. Try a Google search of that and you will find shitloads of links and e-bay auctions too.

[/img]
I'd hate to soil a plug that nice by tossing it in a scoot that isn't running good so I'll keep an eye out for one of those and toss it in once I"m done rejetting.

OK this is just "my opinion", putting a 100 thousand miles spark plug on a scooter as the ruckus is OVERKILL, i can understand that on a motorcycle, where to get to the spark plug is so hard you only want to do it once in the lifetime of the byke, but doing a spark plug change on the ruckus is so easy, that doing it every 15k or at whatever interval is suposse to be done, is at the most a 5 minutes job. As you can see on that spark plug the ground electrode is already shaved to a point doing the same to the one in the ruckus with a file will produce very similar results

Welcome Mike! This plug is really just something to buy if you enjoy adding parts to your Ruckus but it shouldn't cause any noticable improvement....if you don't expect anything then it can be a fun way to spend 15 minutes working on your Ruckus and something to brag about but that's it.
