Unsprung weight(wheels, tires, suspension, etc.) is the real way to go...but $$$$. Just for real world info: when I started making my alum. floorboards, etc., I kept stripping parts off trying to see if the weight would make a lot of "feelable difference" in speed / acceleration. 1mph up-hill gain / quick acceleration after removing...floorboard.skid plate.lights.mirrors.cargo tray.fenders.speedometer.kicklever.horn.front rack.turn signals. Not much gain from a lot of impractical removals...the Ruck is what it is...practical & fun unless you do the $ route.....

If somebody came with a real light weight aluminum wheel for the ruckus i will go for it, but i will not fork that much money for kit that is only a compromise What we need are some well made wheels that fit cheap forks, like a PGO or Kymco......... Ill be at the shop later on next week or the week after, the owner told me feel free to take the forks off, and see if i can get something that fits !!!

Get your vernier caliper and start measuring the forks, ours is 27mm at the top and the axle is 10mm ;D

Finding a front end from another scooter should be doable because the main thing you need to get right is the diameter of the forks (27mm). You also need to get the distance between the fork legs right but that can be done fairly easily with spacers. The hard part is the rear wheel. If you just want to do the fork legs than you need to worry about things like axle size and brake compatability so it's easier to do the whole front end but then you either need to settle for having the ugly stock rim on the rear OR trying to use the rear rim too which probably won't fit on our axle and if it does then you still need to get lucky with the drum brake.
You can make the front end from any scooter work (forks + brake + rim) if you buy the crown and weld it on to our steerer tube in place of the stock one which actually isn't that hard.
I'd really like to do a conversion from a Aprilia SR50 Ditech because they have awesome 13", 5 spoke rims that are beautiful and would work perfectly with 130/60-13 tires but the problem is the rear wheel because the SR50 uses a rear disc so that would require heavy fabrication to our swingarm to mount a caliper somehow.

I've been meaning to weight my bike. It would be great if someone with a stock bike could weigh theirs with 1/2 tank of gas or so. The easiest way is probably to use a bathroom scale and weigh each wheel individually which should be pretty close. I'll try and weigh my soon. I'm hoping to switch to an airshock in a month or so which will hopefully save another 1-2lbs off.

If someone wants my Phongeer shock it's up for sale. It's an awesome shock because the rebound is totally adjustable so it can be as stiff as you want (larger guys take note) and the rebound damping is also adjustable so you can set it for bigger hits or small chatter sensitivity etc. Plus it's nitrogen filled, inverted, sexy (really goes nice on a white Ruck) etc. I'm looking for $130 for it.
I'm switching just because I want the weight savings and look of an airshock. I know I'll never get the performance level I'm getting with this bad boy. Plus it doesn't hiss or squeak like the Showa's from Battlescooter can.

Help me here DD, what is this you speak of?
Also, the YT4B-BS battery mod weights 2.1lbs instead of 4.6lbs so that's another 2.5lbs (or 1.1kgs) saved.
Do you have a write up for this somewhere? I've been searching forever (almost 2 minutes now!!) and I can't find anything. I tried once putting my roomates battery in my Ruck and it was too short so the positive terminal was hitting the tray and I had no interest in chopping up my battery tray (but now that I have a spare battery tray.... ;D )
Thanks, Keith
