hey guys, i just changed the gear oil today and i had to tip it over to get the whole amount of gear oil out of the case..so i did...and i bought castrol 80-90w gear oil...is that a good choice....it seems to run fine and it makes no noise and it doesnt leak at all...

Sounds perfect...congrats on getting the job done ;D In my experience, it's a lot easier to drain the oil immediately after you've come home from a ride because it's hot and runny so it doesn't take 20min to drip out.

yeah there's a tiny bolt way at the back behind the drive cover. You'll see a small (10 or 12mm) bolt on it and nearby it'll say 0.1L meaning it takes 0.1 litre. Honda doesn't say when to change it but every few thousand is always nice. To change it just go for a ride so it gets hot and running and then remove the drain bolt and tilt the scooter over so it pours out. Once you've got as much drained as you can get, refill it up to the bottom of the drain bolt hole with new stuff. The recommended oil is SAE 90 gear oil. I like to overfill it a bit and then let it drip out the drain bolt hole until it stops dripping because then the level will be right on with the bottom of the hole.

DD is right, the factory does not give a change interval, but i thing 6000 miles or 10000 kms is a good time to replace it, and definitively warming up the oil by riding the scooter is a good idea, doing the work with some help is always a good idea ;D ;D

Alot of Japanese scoots run their whole lives without changing the gear oil. Crazy !!! Thats because they only last 10,000 km/s

Nice tip with the oil can ;D You could heat up the oil on the center stand...it would just take longer with the lower wheel speeds...I wouldn't wanna rev it too high on the stand.

There is no load on the gears if the scooter is on its center stand, so it will take forever to warm up, a short ride will warm them real quick and be a lot safer on the engine
