I let my Ruckus sit for 5 years with fuel in it (bad idea). After replacing gas, fuel filter and rebuilding my carb, my engine actually started. However, not being the sharpest tool in the box, I had the brake lock engaged and was revving the engine and noticed it was bogging (of course). I didn't do it for very long, but was wondering if I could have damaged the belt-variator-clutch system by doing this. I didn't smell anything burning and haven't rode it because it wont idle. I think I need to get a new idle jet as I don't feel confident in the cleanliness of the tiny size 35 jet.
Thanks in advance for any insight or criticism

Give it a full service IE: oil, coolant, gear oil, clean the carb, new air filter and then get back to us on it. Happy Fixing unlucky

Thanks very much for the info! I am waiting on a new pilot jet and am in the process of doing the maintenance y’all have recommended.
Will report back after jet is installed.

Something I forgot to mention is you don't need to buy the fancy oil that the manual calls for. Since we don't have wet clutches a regular synthetic motor oil works great for our little engines.

Thanks again for the info! On a similar topic, I haven’t put it in yet but I got Mobil 1 75w90 synth gear oil as it was fairly cheap at $12/qt. Is that suitable or should I use 80w90?

Hey unlucky I checked the service manual and it recommended the use of "Hypoid Gear Oil #90", so if you're wanting to do a spec oil change I'd go return that gear oil. I will say however, that I have been using Amsoil 75w90 gear oil from a trans flush I did a while back on my car in Ruckus without any issues occurring from it. You'll be fine 👍

Well… after doing everything at least twice, she’s running perfectly.
Replaced idle jet, fuel, fuel filter, engine oil, gear oil, spark plug and air filter.
I liked Mitch’s Scooter Stuff YouTube vids alot. They were the most complete for my needs.
Thanks for the help everybody!
