So my order clutch on my ruckus was going out. So I figured I'd purchase and new transmission kit. I bought the POLINI PERFORMANCE VARIATOR & BELT KIT and a adjustable performance clutch/bell as well. When it was a all installed i noticed that my acceleration was super slow. I'm running some 6.5 dr.pulley sliders and the clutch came with a 3k spring. Here's my question do I need to change the torque spring to a lower load rate? Or change the 3 smaller springs inside the clutch? Not sure of the name of either springs. I just need the bike to take off quicker during stops. And suggestions would be grwat

What variator and roller setup were you running before this? It sounds like you just swapped the whole cvt in one shot. Quicker acceleration would be through changing the big spring (Contra) to make it harder to shift up.

It was all oem clutch, clutch bell, variator, weights and belt. The only reason I swap everything out for after market was because the clutch was starting to slip. It was no longer gripping to the clutch bell. In fact the clutch bell was very smooth which I heard was not good. So while I was there I decided to get all new parts. I just want to understand what the large center spring does in comparison to the 3 smaller springs inside the clutch?

Sorry to just drop off like that, lifes been busy. To post pictures you can't be on the mobile version of the website and you will likely have to reduce the file size to post as it can't be larger than 1 MB.

The large spring (contra spring) changes when you gear up or down stiffer contra springs shift later causing faster acceleration. The 3 small springs change when the clutch engages. Stock springs engage at 3000 then you start to move, stiffer springs will engage at 4000, 5000 rpm. You go stiffer in these springs in order to get a harder launch. A side note a smooth clutch bell is good as that means it's worn evenly without any grooving, you only lightly scuff it if you were to swap clutch pads and needed to seat them into the old bell.

I totally appreciate all the info. So I had ordered a new contra (yellow) @1500rpm because I was hoping it give me a quicker take off unfortunately it did NOT. BUT... I do have great top end speed. To a point yhat the believe the rev limiter is keeping me from going any higher then 37mphish. I might place with the 3 clutch springs to see if I can use a less stiff springs. Any recommendations???

Honestly I use the stock clutch, belt, and springs and they have held up to my abuse thus far. I trust the variator and weight choices to do the hard work for me as I'm not racing so I don't need a hard launch or quick downshifting to get me going and slowed quickly. Changing contra, means swapping weights and completely retuning the cvt. Too much work for little gain, but to answer the question use a soft contra, 5.5G rollers and the standard clutch springs and go break in the belt and clutch for 100kms of easy riding, then start tuning.and doing power runs.

Get i will try that. 1 more question how do I know if my ruckus rev limiter is limiting my speed? What kind of symptoms would I notice??

For the rev limiter coming in the only symptoms you might notice without a tach would be the engine suddenly not running quite right. If you haven't got one already I do highly recommend using a simple single wire lawnmower tach to aid in tuning your Ruckus.

Heres a photo of where my tach is mounted for reference. It's the little blue thing in the center of my handlebars

I just bought 1 of those and installed it today. I'm only able to reach a top speed of about 32mph and it starts to spatter. What rpm am I suppose to be at at gull throttle?

You should expect to see 8000rpm on 2005 and older and 8800rpm on 2006 and newer rucks.

Ok great. That means I am hitting the rev limiter. I'm getting up to 8800 at full throttle. Could it also be cause by the main jet? I'm running a 40 slow and 80 main

If you're hitting 8800rpm your grief is being caused by your cvt and clutch. You must be slipping aggressively or not have the right weight/variator combo.

Its so difficult for me to determine what exactly it is. Its all new belt, variator, Dr pulley sliders and new clutch

That's not a terrible idea. It'll let you rebuild the kit slowly and assess where it is you're losing the speed.
