Hi all, Relatively new to ruckus ownership and modding the bike. I have a 2012 that is mostly stock except for a drop in K&N filter. Recently found a guy who sells exhausts, and I went ahead and bought one: diyruckus.bigcartel.com/product/br-quick-change-headerI was stoked to find a replacement exhaust for under $100! Anyway, I wanted to see if anybody had any experience with a briggs & stratton muffler on their ruck, how it sounded, what sort of jetting they ended up with. Just curious to see what people think! Thanks

Hey! I just ran one for a few months with a modified airbox and a KN filter and holy heck is it loud! Sounds really mean and rumbly considering it's only 50cc. I settled on a 78/38 setup (I live at sea level) with the idle mix screw out 2.5 turns from 0. I also clipped 1.5 coils off of my carb spring and had the needle shimmed 2 or 3mm which led to a modified needle retainer.
Now I've swapped the whole setup to a 20mm CVK carb and a Leo Vince exhaust. So I won't be able to tune alongside you.
I'd say 78/35 with the mix screw turned out 3 turns and a 1mm shim will sort you out. Buy some earplugs too!
Happy Tuning!

Thanks for the heads up! I hope it's not too loud, but having a head pipe makes it easier to find a universal muffler that can work. I'm also at pretty low elevation, so I'd bet my jetting set up will be really similar to yours. I haven't modified the airbox, but I'm considering drilling it in a few places for better airflow. Any advice there? Thanks a million, Theo.

The BR quick change with the briggs 4-8HP muffler is pretty quiet at idle but it's well into the 100DB range once you're riding it at speed. You don't notice the drone after awhile.
If you're going to modify the airbox make sure you have some more jets, TINY drill bits, and a 0.032 inch thick 6/32 washer to fix the fuel or black tape to cover the holes you just drilled, haha. I cut out the little snorkel in the bottom of the air intake and ground it completely out to increase the airflow as well as grinding out the slots where there are fake vents on the side. Additionally I removed the PCV inlet hose from the airbox and plugged the hole on the backside and put a filter on the inlet hose of the PCV box. That was to ensure that I was getting a strong signal for the valve cover breather to allow for optimal venting of fumes. If need be you can PM me and I can send you photos of my modified airbox and what I ended up doing to the carb in order to get my midrange not to lean out too much at cruise.
Looking forward to hearing more about your ruck!
