Background:
2009 Honda Ruckus. Bought with 900 miles this time last year. Now at 52xx miles.
Stock everything. Up until now everything has been running fine. Absolutely no problems.
Last night I removed the airbox cover so I could replace the air filter. Turns out I had the wrong filter.
While the filter and airbox cover was removed, I turned on the engine for about 30 seconds and rev'd it a couple times as I wanted to see what hoses were doing what (mechanical noob here). After about 30 seconds the engine died, which I expected to happen.
Since I didn't have the correct filter, I put the old filter back on and replaced the airbox cover.
I then turned on the engine again, rev'd it a few times, and then rode around the driveway just to make sure everything was hunky dory.
Everything seemed fine.
Problem:
This morning I turned on the scoot to leave for work like I always do, started up fine, and engine was idling normally.
But when I took off, the engine kept bogging down every time I hit the throttle. It never died, but every time I hit the throttle it was like it would try and rev up, then would go back down to idle speed.
I was eventually able to coax it up to higher speeds, and it seems like once I'm past 30mph, everything runs fine, but slower than 30mph and I'm having bogging issues again. On top of that it just feels like there's less power. I can barely go over 25 when going up hill, and I notice my top speed is now somewhat reduced.
I don't know what I did!
Could running the engine for 30 seconds without an air filter actually cause these problems?
Would cleaning the carb / jets help?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
