I purchased a new 2012 ruckus and I only have one problem that I really need to fix. I am 210 lb and when I sit on my ruckus the stock rear shock is about bottomed out. I know this question has been asked before. I saw a great thread on here for using the stock shock from another honda scooter but I cannot find that thread. I thought it was an NH125 but I am not sure. I am running the stock air box for now. Any help would be great or a link to the thread. thanks.

I've heard the Aero 80 shock works. There's quite a few after market shocks out there.

I found the thread on here in which the and Aero 80 shock was used. The shock was listed as an NH 80, the shock I found is an Aero 80 shock part CH80 so I ordered it. I am going to try this first as it is cheap and there is no airbox mod needed. On most of the good after market rear shocks I have seen, you need to have the airbox removed. After the install I will let other know how this worked for me.

The aero is a great choice as it is hydraulic and vast improvement over the stock friction unit

I use the daytona shock loaded to it's highest weight setting, (225 lbs. and 6'5) and it is a huge difference from stock.

.So I received the CH 80 rear shock I ordered off of E-Bay, it came of off a Honda Elite. The story, I just purchased a 2012 Honda Ruckus and I am 5, 10 @ 220 lbs. So the stock ruckus stock just about bottoms out with me just sitting on it let alone hitting a bump, dip or pothole. I looked at a lot of aftermarket shocks and many are pricey and require mods or total removal of the stock air box. I knew that Honda scooters have not changed their shock mounts in forever so I thought I would try a shock from a larger scooter. I have never worked on a ruckus before and this swap took me 1/2 hour to perform and it lines up almost perfect. The CH80 was about 2 inches taller but no big deal and the bolts lined up and could be reused. This shock cost me $24.00 + $7.00 SH. Let me just say my ruckus now rides like a dream, no bottoming out even when hitting bumps. So for others out there this is a cheap quick fix and there where plenty of these shocks cheap on E-Bay. I can even bounce on the seat and not bottom out and the ride is not too stiff. The NH80 will bolt up the same way but I was having trouble locating this shock.

Sweet! I'm gonna have to mention this to my buddy. He has multiple rucks and elites.

I just did the same thing (and came back 5 minutes ago from my first test drive). I bought a used CH80 shock for $25 on ebay, did the swap (which took about 30 minutes), and the new ride quality is incredible. I weigh about 185lbs, but I'm fairly large (6'2"), so I sit all the way in the back, and the rear shock has to do most of the work. We got pretty serious potholes where I live, and before I bottomed out on a regular basis. Now - with the "new" shocks, I can actually bounce up and down, and still have room to spare! Best $25 spent so far! Installation was a bit more involved than described elsewhere, or in the service manual, but no brain surgery: I had to remove most of the seat bolts, in order to be able to pull out the bolt for the top shock mount, and I had to remove the outer cover of the airbox, in order to reach one of its mounting screws, but that was pretty much it, as far as unexpected hurdles were concerned. Also, while it may be easier to remove the original shock with the rear wheel somewhat supported, you definitely want to get rid of that support, once you want to put the Aero shock in (as that is a bit longer, and would otherwise be a pain to squeeze into place). I didn't take any pictures, as there wasn't really anything "exciting" to see - the replacement shock looks (and mounts) just like the old one — it's just a bit fatter and longer, but still clears everything just fine. Now I just have to find an equally easy (and cheap) solution for the front! (But that seems to be a bit more of a challenge..)

Just purchased a ch80 shock for six bucks off eBay. Replaced the front springs for thirty two dollars delivered. For less than fifty bucks my scooter has been totally transformed. It rides and handles just like it is suppose to. I can now look for bumps, and even jump off the curb without bottoming out. It is now ten times more fun, if you can believe it. The front springs are an inch shorter than stock, but sit and work well.these springs have a fifty five lb. compression rate as opposed to half of that for stock. If I could only find this spring in the correct height, it would be perfect. I checked out custom front springs, but they would have been $175 for the set. At that price I would upgrade the entire front fork to a hydralic unit instead of the shitty stock set up. WOOF

My only two complaints with my new 2012 ruckus are the suspension sucked. Also drum brakes, really? In this day in age when even the cheapest of the cheap "edit profanity" China scooters come with disc brakes. Once my factory warranty is up then I will do new a new front end.
