I just bought a 2004 ruckus and from what i have read on here i would just be wastin my money if i bought any upgrades for the stock engine. I have a list of potential mods that i wanna buy such as a Daytona Drag Variator, larger main jet kit, Daytona CDI, an air filter of some sort, iridium ngk spark plug, and possibly a fmf pipe. I would like to know before i order these parts if they are worth the money and if i should add or remove anything from this list. I know the ruckus is no speed demon by any means but i am just lookin to squeeze a little more performance out of the stock engine.

I have a FMF pipe, larger jets, and a polini variator, I hit rev limiter around 40. The pipe for me was for safety reasons, cause there are a lot of idiots who don't pay attention, so a louder pipe was pretty much necessary.

You say you "want to squeeze a little more performance out". That being said, with a variator, it's give and take. You either get faster acceleration with lower top end speed or vice versa. You don't get the best of both worlds. I think it's highly unlikely that you or anyone eles, myself included is going to out smart the engineers at Honda make this 49cc engine perform better.
The goods news, it's an awesome stock unit that really doesn't need any tweaking.

It will vary depending on your weight. Personally, I am over 200 lbs. The only 3 mods that helped me was the Polini Variator w/ Dr. Pulley 6 gram Slider Weights. And Battlescooters C4U clutch springs. The Polini pulley spring did nothing. K&N drop-in filter requires a re-jet (I didn't do that yet) which I didn't know. If I did know that, I would of got the cone type to get rid of the ugly air box.
Anyway, I hear that if your under 200 lbs a Daytona CDI & bigger Carb is the way to go.
Here is the project that I am currently following (part 3). (http://www.motoiq.com/projects/project_honda_ruckus.aspx)
I hope that helps you.

One more thing, I hear an exhaust (any type besides stock) does nothing in performance. I just bought a 2011 Ruck and I can hit 39-42 mph on flats and I am 210 lbs. Cruising speed 38 mph.
