Baizy, I really appreciate your response. It seems the consensus has changed a lot over the last 15 years. I’ve been reading a lot of these vintage threads and it seemed common place for people to use a 85 mj. Now just as you suggested, 78/38 seems to be what has worked best for a majority of people (intake exhaust). I am fairly mechanically inclined, but I really have grown to dislike working on vehicles. 20 years ago I would have had no problem tweaking my carb 100 times haha. I’m hoping for 1 and done, and I’m realizing that is a unlikely scenario

Unfortunately with these little engines we have to have the tune within a jet size or two of perfect otherwise it refuses to ride the same as it did from the factory.
I will say this about the older posts on the forum though: Back in 2006? Chanito released his "supermotor" A 58.1CC piston kit to for the general public! It was rather popular amongst the members here, and battlescooter released a hotcam around the same era. I have one of the 58cc kits myself and have noticed that they will comfortably run richer than the 50cc counterparts. I've used a 100/38 setup and been able to make it around the block without drowning the engine.
Starting the tuning rich was a common practice as was pointed out by Timber, I think? My thoughts as to why that happened was because the ruck always ran after it had been hopped up, and you could just slowly jet down until you found the right spot for top speed and a good looking plug.
The Ruck Shop sells a nice little kit for jetting the stock carb. So if you buy that you'll only have to pull the carb 4 times at most, which isn't too bad. If you leave the plastics off and bypass the coolant line (that coolant nipple presses out of the carb, just FYI) it gets much easier as Honda didn't really leave much slack on the liquid lines.
Have fun, hope you can get it first shot!

Any updates on this?
I have a different setup. Hoping someone can give me some guidance on carb tune up.
On engine.
-Went with the “Honda Ruckus / Metropolitan airbox eliminator kit Type 1”, for the filter option. Has 85 Main jet, 38 SLOW JET on the carb with shim on the needle. Took out the pcv, and used TRS metal coupler that I attached to CVT cover for keeping the tube secure and in place. -HMF exhaust -stock NGK spark plug - installed Rolling Wrench EVI - polini variator kit with 3/5.6 gram and 3/5 gram rollers - stock belt - tach that was 50$ - engine has under 350 miles I can reach top speed on somewhat flat road at 44 mph. It wants to keep going but just doesn’t. Took it out this past weekend and on a downhill I hit 50 mph. It was at 9800 rpm and backfiring. My guess is I need to go a little lower on the main jet. Please help!
