Bought a 2011 Ruck last Saturday.... I'm a big guy but get 40 mph and even hit the rev limit on a good day down hill. Today I installed the RC-0790 K&N air filter, attached to the factory intake hose. Followed the "How To Aftermarket Intakes" on the site and everything went smooth as can be.
Well, I think I know everything, and was hoping not have to make any carb adjustments after completing this mod....But of course, I was wrong.
So here is my result without any carb mods: Great sound, but my ruck would bog out at around 10-15mph.....than slowly climb to 30-35 tops!!!! Obviously I am getting to much air, so I am taking it to Honda tomorrow to have them adjust the Air/fuel idle screw. I guess Honda has decided to place some sort of metal cap over this adjustment screw, so I'm just gonna have it tuned by them. Hopefully I wont need to re-jet my carb, and I can just add a lil more fuel to my air mix. Will find out tomorrow.
Being as my Ruck is my primary means of transportation I had to come up with a quick fix...I needed to go to school right after I did this mod, and I was bogging out tough!! Simple solution: I put a sock folded in on itself directly over the air filter, fired it up and tried to drive it cold....No bogging what so ever, and had much better acceleration!!! I'm even getting this nice throaty sound! Hopefully adding a bit more fuel to air, I can take this sock off !!! LOL
Following the "How To" , Dandy Dan simply cuts the air hose that exits the PAIR system short and shields it from water. I tried this and it is a bit loud for me. Everything else was clear as day in his instructions. Great post Dan, I had no Idea what I was doing and your thread helped me all the way through.
PS. That white thing you see directly behind the filter is a shoe lace. I will be fixing that tomorrow. Without it, the filter was rattling on the crank case.
