Hey there people, my first post! I obtained a Ruckus from a police auction recently and am pumped about the amount of energy I see on this website, the customizing and personalization of all the scoots. I've always liked the looks of this scooter and am now excited about having at least half of a 2004 in my garage. It only has 500 miles on it, I popped the variator cover off and inside still looks all shiny and new. I need several things in which I have a pretty good head start on getting. One thing I don't want to spend money on if I don't have to is the key. The scoot has a perfectly good ignition cylinder in it as does the gas cap, is there a key code on the serial number or something that may clue me in on getting a key cut for it? Looking forward to milking all of you for as much info as I can, Have already torn apart your website and gained all kinds of info on the scoot.

You might try to get to your honda dealer with the vin number and see if they can cut you a key, the other option is to go to a good locksmith with the ignition lock so they can tear it apart and get you a key to match it

key code is loacted on the neck of the gas cap, the part that goes into the gas tank. Numbers are very fine and are the last three digits of the stringline...

there is a key code also on the ignition, just take it out, get the number and call Honda.

Any Honda dealer should be able to cut you a key with just the code. My brother got one cut last summer for his '83 Honda Aero 80. It took the dealer 2 min so they must have some program or something that has the profile of all Honda keys.

myself have been wondering if the opposite can be done, a lock made to fit an existing key. In the project I want to do to a ruck, adding the jerry can gas tank for extended range, and I want to add a lockable gas tap to it, but have it use the same key as the ignition/helmet holder.
