so im getting ready to say goodbye to the stock floorboard and i dont like the gas tank cover thats good for hiding and protecting all the stock airbox hoses from the rain... so i was wondering if they are absolutely necessary or not. im sure honda wouldnt have wasted the production cost if they didnt have to, but im curious as to how their absence would affect the engine. i know that this engine (50cc) is very sensitive to change in the air intake so thoughts please!

You should be able to shorten and plug that without consequence that hose is eliminated with every aftermarket intake. I do believe it is a drain tube for blowback? Could be wrong perhaps Chanito will chime in?

The hose does not draw air or vent air so you wont need too.

my findings are as such: no performance loss, maybe a slight psychological performance gain haha so it starts right up, revs up fine, took around the block wide open, no problem. so i come back into the garage and put it up on the center stand and rev it, alls well. so then i notice that it does sound a bit throatier, so i cover the bung with my finger and no change in idle or rev but it does get quieter. so if the hose' only purpose was for noise baffling... why did honda decide to even put a hole there in the first place??
