For most of the world the sport called soccer is football or futbol to us Spanish speaking countries, The World cup is an event watched more closely and intense than the Olympics, which also is every four years, is has always been amazing to me how little interest is here for it, qualifying for it is something to be extremely happy about, as only 32 teams make it, anywhere else the country stops to watch its national team play, here is something on the news right after the baseball and basketball news But watching England-USA yesterday was something i was not used to, as there where very noisy US fans (which is a very good thing) and the sport bar was full Let's go USA ;D ;D

0-0 or 1-0 scores aren't going to do it for the average sports fan in the USA. parents have kids play it because the kids get to run for an hour, get tired out and then go to bed shortly after they get home from the evening game. i know you can't touch the ball with your hands, other than that i don't get it at all.

I guess is all a matter of what did you grow up with, if a touch down and a field goal was worth 1 point, most football matches would end up 3 - 2 or something like that, i played soccer all my life and find the game exciting, even a 0-0 match was worth watching if the teams were good. But i never did find baseball exciting, however here people go crazy about it, i remember saying to one of my kids friend's dad that i found it boring and the guy got really upset about it, and went on and on about how exciting and wonderful baseball was

Everyone I work with watches the World Cup while we set up the restaurant. Several of us still play in local leagues and discuss ther many many injuries we have experienced. Too many people think this is a sport for wimps. My goalie once broke his foot in the first half and played the entire second half. Another guy I played with lost a tooth. One of my fullbacks wiffed on a kick and his cleat caught the leg of a guy on the other team tearing his leg open. He needed 78 stitches. Those sort of injuries are less likely in baseball. Worl Cup is far more brutal than anyone can imagine. I love it.

I don't understand anyone watching baseball. I went to a game once, and almost fell asleep by the 3rd inning, left about the 4th or 5th.
I'm still more a fan of our football, but I like some futbol. Caught the Mexican National team in a friendly with Iceland a couple months back. Been watching what I can of the world cup.
