I'm getting pretty close to pulling the trigger on my next Ruckus Yup, I'll be my third one and my first one since May 2007...wow it's been too long. Almost 3 years! I'm currently working out the final details of buying this Ruckus. It's a silver 2008 Ruckus with 4400kms (2800 miles) on it. It includes a lowered seat and kickstand.

I'm going to buy this tomorrow morning. Hopefully he doesn't sell it before then.
One thing that has me a bit nervous is that the centerstand is missing. That's not a big deal itself, but it does indicate that some previous owner has fiddled with it. The current owner had no idea there was even supposed to be one. Hopefully I can take this for a test ride. For all I know, it might only go 40km/hr and the current owner thinks that's normal too.

Got it I just rode it 135kms (80 miles) on mostly 55mph roads in 35F weather and raining.....brr.....I've got a cold for sure. It was good to back in the saddle though. The Lorax was crashed June 2007 so it's been 2 years and 8 months without a Ruckus. In that time I've only ridden a Ruck twice.

Thanks guys....I've got some stuff planned for it and I'm going to take some pictures of me with it soon....I've just been working like crazy last night and then all day today. Things are crazy with the olympics here. I gotta order a polini variator for it asap. I sure missed lighter rollers when I was climbing all the hills on the way to whistler.

Oh dear.....I just bought a Polini Variator, Daytona drivebelt, K&N airfilter, blue clutch springs and a lightened JC flywheel. At least they're all internal mods so my wife won't notice Oh and I got a S2 Garage HYS underseat pan. This product was actually my idea last summer and it's great to see S2 put it into production. I'm still mulling over the name.... Here's a picture of it taken in my driveway. I've got it all tuned up now with an oil change, valve gaps etc. Only mods at present are the lowered seat, kickstand and useless mini-mirrors. Hopefully some packages show up soon.

I just bought an Aero 80 rear shock for it. Aero 80 rear shocks are the best. You get more travel in a shock that is hardly longer (266mm vs. 260mm) because the stroke is longer. Plus the whole thing is beefier and you can scoop one up on eBay for as little as $4.99. It looks almost exactly like the stock shock but beefier. I'll post side by side pics when it arrives.

For the name.....I'm thinking of calling it 'the Shogun'. A 'Shogun' means "a military rank and historical title for (in most cases) hereditary military dictator of Japan". I think it's cool that both the Ruckus and this title are Japanese, plus it's a cool meaning.

I got an Aero 80 rear shock in the mail today. I mounted it up ASAP. It's perfect. Here's my write-up: battlescooter.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Aftermarket&action=display&thread=5870&page=1My parcel from Bowls is also at the post office but I can't pick it up until Friday when my wife is at work Then I'll install my Polini variator, K&N airfilter, kevlar belt, slider weights and blue clutch springs. That's about it for my planned mods. I've got a lighter flywheel and some headlight grills coming to.

Today was installation day for a bunch of new parts in The Shogun. I installed: - Polini Variator - 5.5g Dr. Pulley Sliders - Daytona Kevlar Belt - Blue Clutch Engagement Springs - K&N Airfilter (in place of stock filter) - New Sparkplug It was snowing hard outside with over 2 feet of snow in the past 36 hours or so. After spending a few hours on the ski hill slaying the powder I headed home with 6 hours before my wife would be home from work. Accordingly, I rolled my Ruckus right into the kitchen to work on Installing everything went well. I took my time and had several cups of coffee. It's great to work on a scooter in warmth and when you're not in a hurry. By the time I was done there was a break in the snow and the roads were plowed so I took it out for a 30 minute test drive. Overall I'm very happy with the setup. The 5.5g slider weights seem to have my revving right at the sweet spot for optimal acceleration. It was interesting to see how the Polini needs a bit of time to break in. Down the first big hill I hit the redline at 60km/hr (37mph) which had me worried a bit. A few hills later and I was able to get to 66km/hr (41mph) before redlining. After 20 minutes or so I was hitting 70km/hr (43mph) downhills without redline. Actual top speed is hard to judge because the conditions aren't ideal with some wind and snow on the roads and cold temperatures. Still, I was about to cruise around 64km/hr (40mph). I expect to do closer to 70km/hr on flats in summer conditions. The tolerances of the Polini are pretty tight which is nice but it does mean there's a bit of a break in period before it slides as it should. FWIW, stock I was hitting the redline at 64km/hr (40mph) which is pretty low and likely due to the worn drivebelt, rollers etc. BTW, the K&N filter to replace the stock airfilter is a really nice piece and it's pretty affordable at $26. I would recommend this to any Ruckus owner as it'll likely pay off in the long run. It's hardly more than a stock filter from Honda, although it is about 5 generic lawn mower filters in price. This is the one you want: store.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=33-2238I'm still loving the Aero 80 rear shock. It's a great part and definately a good pick up if you don't want to spend way more on a shiny aftermarket shock.

Maintenance has really gained back a few mph for me with this scooter and it seems to be running like a new Ruckus now.....actually better than that with my Polini and 5.5g sliders. When I got it at 4500km (3000 miles) the oil was overfilled and the rear tire PSI was down around 15. Since then I have changed to synthetic oil, cleaned the carb, adjusted the valves, changed the gear oil, new air filter, new belt and rollers, up'd the PSI to about 25/30 psi (front/rear) and tossed in a new plug. Now it starts easier (I don't need to hold the throttle on) and I've gained a little power. It seems like a lot of Ruckus owners run around a few mph slower than they could be because of lack of maintenance or improper maintenance.
