I had no choice but to drop the engine out of the ruck last night. The sister came after work to check out a tercel a coworker was selling for cheap (she loves it), and I couldn't let thatpoor little bike drive away.
At almost twenty-one thousand original KM on them and a RAPID deterioration over the last two weeks, the engine now sounded like a coffee grinder.
I hope we'll be able to ($$) get a BBK off of chanito, but otherwise, the gameplan will probably be a new crank w/ bearings, oil pump, timing chain w/ tensioner and depending on the look of the piston and cylinder and if we don't BBK, re-ring and re-hone.

Might be cheaper just to pick up a whole used engine and toss it in there.

I got about 19,500Km on my 05 Ruckus right now but I have not be riding it much because its getting cold here. Facing some highs of -2C in the coming days.
Please state what you are going to do with the Ruckus along with costs when you are done.

Might be cheaper just to pick up a whole used engine and toss it in there. hmmm.... wat? A used engine would still be ... used... any pre-06 engine would soon need a crank anyways, nevermind if it was well broken in to begin with. I don't know if you've checked prices, but you can pretty much rebuild an engine like new for a couple hundred bucks. A crank is like a hundred bucks, and a crapload of engine parts are around 20-30 bucks. Once you've got a crank, oil pump and timing set, you're only short a fresh piston/rings or a BBK, some valve shims for good measure and the various seals and gaskets to rebuild. Oh and I work in a garage, I'll be able to order the parts on the shop's account with a 15% discount. w00t.

I agree, repairing the crank is not that expensive, and you will finish with a new engine ;D

View of the damage! Destroyed oil pump Piston skirt + finely powdered bearings = Coffee grinder crank bearings (one less than the other) And cam big end bearing beginning to fail, though the camera's mic isn't good enough to pick it up. tinypic.com/r/11r3h2b/5

Wow! those bearings are toast, you will need to replace the oil pump, later models have a metal drive as oppose to earlier motors having a plastic one, if you have the plastic oil pump drive check that the gear is not bend, those cam bearing need to be replace, you can get good ones cheaper than the factory unit and are great for producing extra power, but are a pain to replace, now might be a good time to go for a big bore as there is not oversize pistons for this engine, your only option is a new crankcase By the way ring end gap is .002 to.006 inches for the top ring .002 to .007 for The second and .004 to .024 for the oil control, i try to keep it at .005 for the top 2 and .016 for the oil control to keep friction low

Surprisingly, the cylinder wall itself is in pretty good shape and still shows some of the original crosshatching! sturdy little bugger! Cheers to a soft aluminum piston in a hard iron sleeve I'll just give it a quick hone and drop in a new piston and rings. The parts are already ordered @ honda. Full crank, piston, rings, camshaft, oil pump assembly, 2006 timing chain lifter and a lot of seals and gaskets. Unfortunately, thanks to an unforseen car purchase, the sister is short a few pennies for a big bore ;_;

Nice job. It's a great call to do a quality rebuild since you are cracking it open anyways. 21,000kms is impressive on your first crankshaft. I only got to about 14,000kms. On my last trip with the original crank I got pulled over for driving too slow and I explained to the cop that I was taking it easy since my motor was dying. I fired it up to show him the horrible noise and the grinding was so loud that he didn't even notice that I had no muffler whatsoever on the scooter (long story about the muffler).

Other various expenditures... Very worn drive pulley. I have a new fixed half, a multivar and a belt in my batch of new parts Also, the battery is very dead, we'll need a new one. I can't even kick the dead horse back to life with a manual charger.

That's an awesome keychain. I used to have a Ruckus piston pen holder at work.

Ah bugger!
Well that didn't last very long!
The bike is currently on VERY restricted use. Seems like the cylinder did not like getting honed, 2000 and some KM later the piston's slapping in the bore and it's about as powerful as a wet kleenex. I wouldn't want the piston to snap a skirt and get bits of aluminum in the new bearings.
DAMN you honda for not making oversized pistons. DAMN YOU!!!
Oh well, the current plan is now to take it easy and save to rotating assembly while gathering funds for a BBK. That's gonna allow for a fresh piston in a fresh bore, tight tolerances and no slap.
