My husband recently got a Ruckus to use to commute to work. He’s been customizing it. One of the things he did was add pegs. As a result, he removed the plastic cover that your feet rest on and that covers the wires and tubes underneath the seat (instead of cutting it a little bit off the foot pad so the pegs would fit with the cover on). We live in Seattle where it rains a lot, and he’ll be parking the Ruckus in various different places (on the street, in garages, etc.). I’m concerned that: 1) the gas tank cover will rust; 2) it won’t be good for the wires to be exposed to LOTS of rain and something could short; and 3) the exposed wires are asking for someone to mess with his bike. He claims that I’m being paranoid and that I don’t know what I’m talking about. I asked someone at a bike shop and he told me “they cover up that stuff for a reason, but I guess your husband might be one of those people who has to learn the hard way.” My husband said that everyone who puts pegs on their Ruckus end up having exposed wires. So, here’s my question to you all. Who is right? Please convince either me that it is fine the way he now has it, or convince my husband that it is better to cover up all that stuff. He won’t listen to me because (and honestly, I admit this myself) I don’t know that much about mechanics, bikes, etc.

8-)YOU ARE RIGHT, KEEPING THE WIRES EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENT IS A BAD IDEA Tell him they sell gas tank covers so it keeps the naked look somehow but still protect everything that need protecting, the cheap way around is to just cut the cover where it interfere with the pegs

Thanks Chanito for the response.
I should explain in more detail. He did buy and install a gas tank cover (http://www.ruckuslife.com/featured/ncy-gas-tank-cover-black.html) and he does have a cover for the bike. And he says that all the connections for the wires are covered. And he added a split tube cover with the split facing down over all the wires. But there is no cover under the seat or along the cargo deck cover any more. Is that a problem?
He does admit that even though the gas tank is covered, the gas cap is now exposed. Is there a possibility that it will rust? Are there aftermarket gas caps?
I seriously don't want you to just tell me what I want to hear (that he should put the cover back on). I can handle the truth, whatever it is.

the wires under the cargo pan get soaked when you wash it and when it rains anyway..i've never had a problem with rain with cargo pan or no cargo pan..gas cap is aluminum (pretty sure) so it will oxidize but won't rust..I painted mine black to clean it up..or you can get a cap from passwordjdm..

You can also cut out the bottom plastics to cover the bottomside of the gastank and fuel line...
