HELP!! I bought a new ruckus last year. I road it all year round putting on 6000+ KM on it. I heard a strainge sound and checked the engine oil and it was good. I saw a small bolt that said oil at the rear end as well. I opened it and saw nothing. Tipped the bike over a bit and nothing came out then tipped it right over and still nothing. I think there was no oil in it. Here is the question: Does transmission oil evaporate? or do you think they may have forgotten to put oil in the transmission. I think there should have been something in there. It's in the shop where I bought it as I type going to cost me about $500.00 + - to have repaired. I think they should pay for it if they didn't put oil in the transmission. Am I wrong in thinking this? Woody1962

There is supposed to be 0.1 liters (0.025 gallons roughly) of oil in there. The oil is thicker gear oil though not regular engine oil. The oil level should be flush to the bottom of the bolt hole. Anyways, I'm pretty sure that stuff doesn't evaporate. I changed mine around 15,000 km and it was all still there although quite dirty. I really doubt that Honda would ship a Ruckus without this oil but I guess it's possible. Absolutely nothing came out??? It seems to me like you'd run into a problem before 6000 km if it was dry but I guess you never know.
If it really was the case that there was no oil then Honda should definitely fix it. Are you still under warrantee? First you need to make sure that is really the problem (although it sounds like it is) and secondly you need to think up a way to convince the dealer that it was dry if it's not under warrantee. If you don't make headway with the dealer ask for the phone # for the area rep. this might scare them into helping you and if not the rep. might hook you up. If you get totally screwed by Honda then either pony up 500$ or just by the parts for probably 1/4 that and get the shop manual and replace stuff yourself.

Thanks, will try that.
You know I thought something should have ran out when I did that and my Ruckus had never leaked since purchase. Too bad I put gear oil in it before taking it to the dealer would have made things easer.
