I'm noticing a drop of oil on my garage floor after my son parks his 09 Ruckus. It appears to be coming from the right side (while seated) right near the bottom of the rounded part of the frame in front, right near where that round hole on the side is. It is oily when I touch it there. I tried to look under and didn't really notice anything except there is a small rubber hose that appears not to be connected to anything around that area. I am under warranty & will bring it in for the 600 mile checup & oil change, but I was wondering if anybody had any ideas what this might be. A new engine should not leak even a drop. We have 325 miles on it. thanks in advance
I took it in for servicing since it's under warranty. The leak was from a cam tensioner thing. Sorry, I'm not very mechanical.

There are really only a few spots that oil can leak out of. It can leak from:
1) The seam where the two case halves are sealed together 2) The left side seal (behind the variator) 3) The right side seal (behind the radiator) 4) The drain bolt
That's basically it....you could maybe get oil leaking out the head gasket but that's above the oil level so it wouldn't really leak out of there when the scoot is off. It could also possibly splatter out of the dipstick hole if the dipstick is loose.
So anyways, have a look at your leak and see if you can figure out which of these potential leak areas it is coming from. It might also be simply dirty grime from wet roads or it could be oil that ran down there when a Honda mechanical sloppily poured the oil in.

Dandy Dan, I changed my rollers yesterday and noticed oil leaking inside the transmission cover. It appears to be comming from behind the variator. I have 2100 miles on the ruck and just changed the oil as well. I run full synthetic 10w30. Not sure how bad this is since my scoot is still running great. What do I need to do?

Hmm....if it's coming from behind the variator then it's almost certainly the oil seal on the crankshaft behind the variator. It could be coming from the crack where the two halves of the case are joined but this is less likely. If your Ruckus is under warranty then I would take it in and show them if you are sure it is indeed leaking and it's not just a random drop or two of oil in your case.
If your Ruckus is out of warranty and you need to fix this yourself, supposedly you can just pick the old oil seal out and slide it off the crankshaft once you have the variator off. Then you can press a new one in. I haven't done this personally but others have said that it works. I've had this seal leak before (after an engine rebuild where I didn't place it properly) but I resolved it by removing the engine and tearing it open which is a major job.

Hi everyone, i also have a oil leaking problem : For me it's number 3) The right side seal (behind the radiator) Can you help me solve the problem do you known where the leaking can come from ? do i need to remove the radiator? (seems a bit complicated for me)... Thanks for your help. Baudouin from Belgium
