I have a GPS that does not hold much charge on its internal battery so I wanted to know if anyone know of someone who has installed a cigarette lighter connection so you can connect a charger. If you have please send post pic and how to's. Thanks in advance.

I installed a 12v outlet on mine to power my Garmin Nuvi 205 GPS. I wired the outlet directly to the battery using a fused wire from Advance Auto Parts. I also added a 2 prong quick disconnect so I can remove the outlet if needed without removing the battery box cover or disconnecting the wires from the battery. The 12v outlet is an all weather model with a spring loaded cover. It is attached to the stock speedometer sideways using zip ties. Since my GPS suction mount attaches over the speedo, the outlet is very handy in this location.

I installed a cig lighter dead center in the plastic a few inches below the headlight/low fuel light indicators. wired it straight to the battery with a fuse. works great for charging the cell phone and what not,,,,,,,,,,also check out this site. this is the ultimate way to go for powering your GPS. www.powerletproducts.com/products.php?mid=1&gclid=COb6vt-b05gCFRwpawodIXLe0w

I installed my 12v socket straight to the battery with a fuse running the wires through the horn vents at the front of the battery box. I then zip tied it to the headlight metal fixture thingy. I got the fuse and cigarette lighter socket at whore-mart for like 6 bucks total I believe. Just the other day I took it off and wrapped some red vinyl electrical tape around it because I'm going for a black/red color scheme. Looks good.

I would rather wire up a USB port to the battery for charging my iDevices (iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch). I use my iPhone as a GPS, so I need to also find a good mount for it and a waterproof case. Since the devices charge at 12 volts, it should be a matter of hooking up 2 wires, and a fuse. Though I have been thinking of the cig lighter idea. I have a very compact griffin 2 port USB adapter for one of those, found here: store.griffintechnology.com/iphone/iphone-4/powerjolt-dual-micro
