I hooked up the carburetor and the starter is not working at all. Is there something I need to do with the connectors that plugged into the OEM carb?
Help Please! Everything is in...but it won't start. I tried kick starting it once but it didn't work and I would rather use the starter anyway.
Thanks

I read here that the Ruck has a battery saving device on it that won't let the battery start the ruck if the battery is too low. Then you have to kick start it. The idea is that you won't burn out your battery if it gets to low and therefore won't need to replace it as often.

Mine did the same thing. Try tightening your battery connections first its an easy place to start.

The lights turn on and the fuel pump starts up but I am not getting any startup. To compound the issue my brake light is not working. The steady light works but it does not brighten when the levers are pulled. I checked continuity for both switches and they are functioning properly. I have to believe that both problems are related but I do not know enough about the circuitry to be able to quickly troubleshoot.
So the starter is not turning on when the switch is operated and the brake light is not functioning. I have not checked the starter switch yet.
So everyone is on the same page...I pulled the stock carb and put in a Keihin PE20.
BTW, it runs quick and once I finish jetting it I should be near 50...I'm going 41 and the jetting is not right yet...

Do as ruckass said and check your batt terminals for tighness, and then check your fuses, and the brake lights cicuit, if your brakes light do not work the starter will not turn, the computer need the signal to allow the alternator to become a starter Congrats on your carb install ;D ;D

I figured it out by looking at the general wiring diagram and realizing that the blacks from both brake switches have to plug into the same connector and the y/g from both brake switches have to plug into the same connector(y/g) the problem was that the way it is situated it is hard to see the color of the wire running back to main system.
I made the correction and the lights and starter work great!
Now on to jetting both the pilot and main and I should be golden...I hope to do that tonight.
Thanks for everyone's help...

I'm really curious how your new carb is working!?!?! What jet did you use and how fast are you going? Also, how is the take off speed?

The carb is a Keihin PE20 and it is working pretty good, much, much easier to dial in...
I just pop it off the manifold and flip it and then unscrew the drain cap for full access to the main without pulling off the float basin.
Right now I have it jetted with a 38 pilot and 95 Main. I think it is pretty close but I am having some problems.
First of all the acceleration is moderate and the top end is around 41. At 43 I start hearing a sound like a lot of air is rushing so I don't know if it has to do with the rubber boot but something is happening.
I feel like I need to get the RPMS up so I'm thinking about lightening up the weights, 5.5 and 6 right now, and I thinking of going to a total weight of 30 which will drop it 4.5 grams.
I think the jetting is there and I have the clip in the middle position.
Overall it is pretty uneventful for the hundreds of dollars and probably 70 hours I have spent working on it.
I pretty unimpressed.

Just kick-start it. You will look cooler.

The kick start is on the wrong side! Its not a Husky or KTM! Hahahaa! I have only had to kick start mine once or twice, and had a hard time with the left foot/starter cordination!

I still can't get my head around that. I usually stand beside the ruck and with it in the center stand use my right foot to kick it. What do they say about old dogs and new tricks? LOL!
