And how much money did you put into it? Time into it? Also, since the stock speedometer isn't even marked that high, let alone rated that high, how did you come up with 62mph? I'm not doubting that it can be done, I just want something better than "I passed the temp light." I have learned through experience that measuring tools, when used outside of their maximum range, tend to be very inaccurate. Honda speedometers might be an exception. I can't say for sure.

The Canadian Speedo is rated for 50 mph, so by using the same spacing between each 10 mph increment, you can make an educated guess at the final speed. I spent a lot of time on it, and a lot of money, but managed to stay under $1000 by building much of it myself and buying almost everything used. This is what makes it go fast. Chanito BB piston BSS Cam ARP bolts P&P head, smoothed intake manifold, grooved squish zone JCR Lightened flywheel Posh 10.5 CDI PC20 carb, K&N filter KN Variator 35.1 Total grams Shaved Spacer (1/32") Pink Clutch springs Burial Exhaust Header Wrap Low Seat Windscreen Michelen Boppers
Its fun to make these little things go fast. Sure, it'll never beat a 150 GY6, but there's a certain challenge to squeezing the most HP possible with some good old fashioned tuning.

Hi everyone. I have a friend that just got a Ruckus I think it is a 09, he got it three days ago. He sold me his Whizzer he needed more performance. He called me and said that he rode it to work today and said he is not impressed with the performance and had cars racing around him. I told him I would get it going for him. Just to let you know who I am, I was a motorcycle mechanic all through the 60's working for Honda. I still love the first bikes and have about 20 in the garage. I cam to the start of the forum to see what you could do to get some go out of the little 50cc. I am surprised to see that you have to do so much to get the 50MPH out of it. Question, Do you think that there is a lot of friction in the belt outfit and that is something you have to overcome? Honda I think still has the world speed record for 50cc at around 115MPH. I used to have a CR110 (50cc) that would do near 100. Now it was a racing engine, 4 valves 30mm carb and 6 gears, but it was 50cc. I know that the Ruckus was never intended to go that fast but it seems that you have to invest a lot to get to 50. I have the old bikes in the garage and I have not tried to get one to top speed in over 30 years, I am to old for that. I think I could get my stock ones tuned up as best as I could to 50. Honda C110, 4 speed, 18mm carb, and I would move the ignition timing to 30 degree, it is 55cc in the 110. All the ones I have now are 65cc I have the CF130 piston in all of them. I see the engine you have is OHC does it have a hemi head? Water cooled should be an advantage, or they have the temp too high for smog. None of the Honda 50 have as small a header as the Ruckus, they all have a 1/2 id pipe. I have some high comp pistons but I never got much out of them. I love the looks of the Ruckus and will try and find one, they look like a blast. I do have a cn250 with all the body work off I was making a thunder Dome monster a few years ago, I am thinking about getting it out to start again. This is getting long but it looks like you are having fun and that is my motto. Have fun, Dave

;D Welcome aboard, the ruckus engine is a wonderful engine, and is a very compact unit with loads of torque, water-cooled with an overhead camshaft, 2 valve hemispherical combustion chamber, crank bearings in oil bath and a trochoid oil pump feeding oil under pressure to the output side crank bearing and the rocker arms in the head, brush-less alternator/starter, CDI ignition and CV 18mm carb. ECM controlled ignition timing NICE eh! The size and placement of the unit make extracting more power from the unit not an easy task, looking forward to your solutions to our problems in getting more power ;D

Chanito, Is there any way I can get the dimensions of the piston? I would like the distance from the top to the center of the wrist pin, and the size of the pin. From the pics I can find on here it looks like the piston from an Honda XR75, and Honda made a 50 with that engine series, so that would give you a whole bunch of sizes to pic from. I will call the dealer and see if they have one in stock, I doubt that they will, but if so I will get the dimensions. I will let you know. I have a few XR engines in the garage and some pistons, I hope that they will possibly fit. There is no compromise for Displacement. LOL. Have fun, Dave
PS: Is it possible to put up pic's.

Okay that's what I figured. Well, i'm not interested in it anymore as I have no intention of ever doing the BBK. I changed my mind, I don't know what I was thinking . It's gonna be my winter project. I'm so excited.

Bleh, that thing is quite a few years old. I don't think it was anything more than a design exercise. And even if they did come out with a 125cc Ruckus (and kept it looking good, instead of hideous like that thing), I doubt they'd ship it over here. Nobody likes 125cc in the US, apparently.

the 125cc thing is nice but that scooter is mostly ugly (with a few neat design ideas) and it was never intended for production. it was just a show bike.

The only Speed Part I added was a Stock Size Drop In K&N Air Filter! The Throttle Response is alot Quicker! Instead of the Bike moving at a Quarter Throttle, it moves right when I open the Throttle! ;D

Hi fellas!
Going up big long hills, the Ruck won't do more than 25. I got psycho cage drivers on my "edit profanity" wanting to run me over.
I am NOT interested in more top speed. I am happy with the 38-40ish MPH.
My prob is hill-pulling power. I need to maintain 35mph uphill, or I am SUV food.
I'm not even talking about double-diamond type steepness. Just basic grade hills. It's scary
Also- I have to keep it quiet, so stock pipe must stay.
Any of you experienced dudes got a mod combo that would suit my situation? I not too worried about spending a couple of bucks..
Thanks for any wisdom!

Thanks C, I will research the Polini and the Met rollers. Also- thanks for the cool welcome! -Ross Please don't forget to update us. I have a Zoomer that has the same issue. I think there will more challenge for zoomer than ruckus because zoomers are more restricted by the ECU. Not sure if that's a correct statement. But then again, I'm just a noob with regards to scooters.

Ok i read this thread and I wondered how fast i could get my Ruckus to go. It's stock, except for a stock drop in K&N Air Filter and I had two of my friends who have Honda CBRs with digital speedos follow me down a big hill and i hit 47 leaning over the bars going downhill. I'm not big 5'10" 155 so is that the difference or what i can almost hit 45 on flat ground.
