does anyone know anything about this, they say here in hawaii, since the gas is so expensive, that you can use original moth balls in your gas tank like 2-4 you can actually save gas. Does this work?, How? and could you use it on a ruckus, or would it clog the fuel filter?,,,,,,,,,,,,,chris

That just sounds like it would create some kind of poison, to me.

Maybe it is kind of like Octane Booster. It is all good for a little while until you take out your piston and find some white gunk on it

Pure acetone reduces the surface tension of gasoline, leading to an increase in fuel economy. It must be pure acetone, like from a beauty shop, not the hardware store variety. I think the ratio is 1 oz per 10 gal.

Ok but isent it bad to run the higher octain, cause It makes you go slower. As It doesnot burn as high of temp or something. So wouldent that mean less fuel economy? I dont know they have hella etholean, or what ever that crap is they get from the corn. Thats pointless cause the amount of gas they use to plow and grow the feleds is about the same polution, as just burning the gas. And gas motors were made to burn GAS. Not other stuff. And thats why cars run bad on ethonal, corn gas. So well I dont know anyways as if it was good to buy beter octain or not but I hear its bad for the ruckus. And when gas for 87 octain is $4.09 a gallon, then I dont have a choice anyways. Cause I think 91 or higher is $4.50 or higher.,,,,,,,,,,,,chris

You are right in some aspects that ethanol is not a solution to the gasoline crisis. It merely even qualifies for a temporary solution. About the motors running on ethanol, typically, cars that use ethanol run on E85. They are made and qualified to run on E85 and do fairly well. E85 is a fuel mixture of 85% ethanol and gasoline. Keep in mind that ethanol is alike race gas in that it is around 100-110 octane. Unless it is being run on a high compression engine, or one that is built for it...even so ...an engine that has such high compression ratios would be prone to blow

Don't use mothballs. That is a trick us old folks used years ago to boost octane. New mothballs have silicone in them, ruins your rings and cylinder wall

ok yea on the news here in hawaii they say to go down and to get the old moth balls and to put them in your suv to save gas, and they even tell you where to buy them the old ones. but im not going to do it, I just wanted to know why they did this. Yea cause I paid know like $4.14 now for a gallon of gas. for 87 octain...........chris

I figured that if the price of gas goes up $0.10, it only costs me about $0.03 more on my daily 30 mile drive. I don't see much reason to try to mod a Ruckus just to save a few pennies.

The difference in octain is 87 will ignite with less pressure and flame, where 91 take more to light it off.
That's why higher compression motors use 91 or race gas. To prevent pre-detenation. (sp)

yes the moth balls actually work, i raced 125 class forever on my crf250r and my mechanic told us to use race gas with couple moth balls and put jus a tad bit of two stroke oil in the gas to keep it lubed, but this was on my crf250, if it did work on the ruckus that would be awesome it helped us out alot

no no no no- "some cars" that recommend higher octane is not for better mileage, or power. THE ONLY THING high octane fuel is for is not exploding (pre-detonation)- high performance engines, high compression engines, aka high temperature engines, run high octane fuel ONLY BECAUSE "octane" isnt combustible, so they add that stuff into the mix to keep their gas from igniting prematurely. "RACE GAS" doesnt make you go faster, its for "RACE CARS" that have very uncommon engine environments. besides, not all "race cars" are even faster than what alot of people drive every day.

87 UNLEADED IS BY FAR HANDS DOWN THE MOST COMBUSTABLE GASOLINE AVAILABLE.

87 UNLEADED IS BY FAR HANDS DOWN THE MOST COMBUSTABLE GASOLINE AVAILABLE. What about 86 octane?

the lower the octane rating the more combustable the fuel is going to be- i said 87 was the best bc thats the lowest around where i live. i should have said this earlier, sorry about that. e85 is a gimic, plus im not sure what the burn rate on ethanol is and as we all know the ruck is very sensitive to changes in air and fuel, so test at your own risk. yea if you have 86 available id run that for sure. post your findings!
