I've been reading this board for a while (cool how-tos and stuff) and just came back today to find some instructions on changing oil. I thought I should probably contribute to the board by showing enough respect by joining and letting you all see what I ride around for fun.
My buddy Tim and I got Ruckus' at the same time. We went in to the dealer and bought two of them... me after having saw one the day before, and Tim having seen one for about 10 minutes. Here are pics of our 06's as soon as we got them home. At this time, they each had less than 1 mile on them.
I've since been spreading the word on how sweet Ruckus' are, and have gotten a couple people to pick one up - one being a friend Rob, probrewer on here, and the second was my brother-in-law this past weekend.
Anyway, shortly after getting my Ruckus we bought a house, so I've been dealing with house-stuff and haven't had much time to ride or mod my Ruckus. We're settled in a little more now, and so I've got time to start doing Ruckus stuff again. I've done a couple mods so far...
My first was lowering the turn signals down to where they're "supposed to be." I saw this on Battlescooter and thought it looked slick. I eliminated the reflectors in the process. While I was doing that, I also put the horn inside where the Japanese one is.
I really like the way this looks. I think it makes the front end look MUCH cleaner.
For the next mod, I didn't want to spend a whole ton of money, and I wasn't really in to the idea of jetting the carb yet - something I still don't think I'd be comfortable with (shimming needles and whatnot, I'm still reading) so I thought I'd take a huge leap and paint my Ruckus. I've seen a ton of flat black ones (which look really good), but I wanted to do something totally different. Something that I knew was going to be unique.
At one time, I had a 92 Civic VX hatchback that was a really sweet color of blue. I heard through a friend that a local paint place would do a one-stage of pretty much any color paint you could think of and put it in a 16oz rattle can for $16 per can. Not the cheapest thing in the world, but I didn't have a paint booth or a spray gun so I figured it'd work. I figured I could get away with a couple cans... it ended up being 6 cans. Do the math.
I started with the easy part - the part that I had already removed once - the front end.
That's easy enough. The main "frame" of the Ruckus came next. Silly me - didn't check it out good enough before I started painting, but I didn't know that the colored part of the frame is actually the WHOLE FRAME. I thought for sure maybe there was some subframe underneith this that actually held the Ruckus together. WRONG.
I already had the front painted... so what the hell...
Was I scared? Yes. I just paid $2K for this thing and I was sure I was going to mess something up and it'd never run again. Lucky for me that didn't happen.
Here's a pic during the reassembly...
Notice how super dirty the Ruk is in these pics... Sorry I don't have any real good pics of the Ruk after it's been painted, only these couple of blurry ones that I ran out quick and snapped. Formal photo shoot will come later, I promise.
I've got about 400 miles on it now - I've made some pretty long trips and I LOVE to Ruckus!
For my next mod (maybe tonight after I change my oil) I plan on bobbing the rear fender. I really don't like the looks of that thing that sticks out - it drives me nuts.
I also have a "ricer" mod planned that I've been thinking of for a while now. I'm not sure if it'll fit quite yet or not... we'll see. I'll keep you guys updated. Until then happy Ruckusing!
