Your dealer may have over-filled your engine oil, which is a bad thing. Both my Ruckus's were bought brand new from the same dealer, preped by different mechanics, and both came with way too much oil in them.
When you get your Ruck home, put it on the center-stand and check the oil level, if it's too full you can easily unscrew the drain plug, let a little out then screw it back in. Or just do a oil change. it's really simple, fast and cheap.
I don't know why dealer's mechanics would do that, could be they just don't give a damn about a lil scooter. I find that most dealership work (scooter, motorcycle, car) is not impressive and quite often you get your vehicle back in worse shape than it was when you brought it in. (please don't take offense Chanito, personally I'd be honored to have you work on any vehicle of mine)
Anyways, just be wary of your dealers work, and do your best to double check their work. Remember it's your scooter, and you're the best person to look after it, nobody else appreciates it as much as you do. ;D

YA I think because it's a scooter the guy who sweeps the floor gets to prep them.

It's really hard to get the perfect amount of oil in there. When you're filling it back up after an oil change it doesn't show up on the dipstick at all until all of a sudden it's too full. Then you let like 1 Tsp out and it doesn't even register (exaggeration). It usually takes me a few cycles of let a bit out/ top it back up, to get it perfect.

If you fill up the oil from a one litre bottle of castrol it has the markings on the side 1/4 1/2 3/4 Just pour till you're at the 1/2 mark then check and add a little more. easy.

I'll give the castrol bottle a shot. I've been filling mine up straight from a one gallon jug with no markings. I've gotta buy a new one soon. I'm thinking Mobil 1 10w40 full sythetic for the summer. Does Mobil 1 even come in 10w40

Hey Dandy, I changed your oil yesterday. I used castrol syntec 5w50. I think it'll be good for the Ruckus especially after reading about someones crank bearing failure around here. I got the oil level spot on. It didn't seem to hard to achieve the good level either.
I set it to the full level with the dipstick unscrewed in the hole. Is this correct?

I'm currently separated from my baby until this weekend as I'm working up in Ottawa and my Ruckus is at home in Kitchener/Waterloo, Canada. Just so everyone knows my brother is the biggest gearhead/geek in the world. For a good time (ie. Friday nite) he'll take apart his brakes or some part that is working perfectly and just sit and admire the nice parts.

I guess the forum is a failure. I'm glad he's on the forum we need gearhead/geek types.

Greetings all!!! I've been away for a while cause my Ruckus was stolen back in feburary, but I got it back last week!!! I just changed the oil and need to confirm the proper way to check the level. (the manual wasn't recovered). So that's .... 1. on the center stand. 2. stick unscrewed 3. top of the hash marks on the stick. please confirm. Anyone got a manual in .pdf format??? Thanks - DCrollin "I set it to the full level with the dipstick unscrewed in the hole. Is this correct?" YES ! ;D ;D

just make sure it's not past the top of the hashmarks. I set mine at 2/3 of the way up to be safe.

My manual says to let it idle for 3-5 minutes and then wait 2-3 minutes before checking the level. I just did that, by the book, but I'm confused as how read the level!
The stick is hitting the oil at an angle. If I look at the top of the stick the level is right on the top mark, but if I turn the stick over it's half an inch past the mark.

There is about a one inch range on the dipstick that your oil height should be in. This is the part with the 'hashmarks' or X shaped marks on it. The level will read somewhat higher on the bottom of the dipstick than the top cuz it obviously goes in at an angle. To read the dipstick just: - let it idle like you said - then let it sit for a few min - pull out dipstick and wipe the bottom 1/2 dry with a rag - push dipstick into hole (don't screw it in) - pull it back out and look where the line is.
If you just changed the oil there will be some oil stuck the dipstick tube walls that can make it harder to read. The level on the bottom of the stick will be about 1/4" higher than on the top but make sure both are in the hash marks and you'll be golden. It sounds like you've got too much oil if the level is over the top on the bottom. Remember than anywhere in the hashmarks is A+ so don't risk overfilling it by putting it all the way to the top. Personally I set it so the level is at 1/2 way on the top and about 3/4 on the bottom. You want to make sure you're not to high but you may as well put it a bit above the bottom of the marks just in case you lose some.

I'm only at 510 km, so I haven't changed the oil yet. I'm going to McD tomorrow to get straws to take some oil out.

zoomerman, you are right on with this thread. On my first oil change I measured how much oil came out. Whoever it was that initially filled it with oil at the Honda Shop put in a whopping 25% too much.

im using 10-60 tws motorsport castrol available at bmw dealers(where i work) i just use an empty bottle and fill to a little above 500ml and lower than 750 (600ml) it hits the mark every time! if u keep an extra bottle around, measuring before you pour is an easy alternative to the straw trick ;D

Doing it this will end up in catastrophe as you won't learn essential skills like anger management, how to spill large amount of oil trying to let a wee bit out of the drain bolt and of course the fine skill of throwing temper tantrums when things just won't go your way.

Just buy a measuring cup, the one they use for measuring flour and stuff when you cook (two to three dollars will get you a nice one), a funnel and voila you are set ;D
