So my roommate and I both have a Ruckus. Mine's an 05 with about 5000 miles and his is an 06 with a few hundred. Anyhow, the scooters are our main transportation and as some of you may have heard or experienced we had quite the blizzard here in Denver the week before Christmas. We got a little stir crazy and decided that we should have a long distance scooter race. So at about 5-6 pm on the night of December 21st, we set out. Well, first we had to spray brake clean into our key cylinders as they were frozen and my scoot took a while to fire. But we dug out and raced to a local bar to meet a friend. We decided to do the race as a point to point and the first one home won. Since we'd be leaving all spots at the same time we mostly stuck together and helped each other out and made sure the other wasn't too badly hurt the many, many times we fell. I had a pretty hard spill at top speed that I thought was going to send me home, but a little walking and I felt better. After the bar we did the long distance segment which was about 5 miles each way and through the middle of downtown Denver to our friends Brian and Erika's house (who are on a real adventure right now www.theinfiniteroad.com/) Anyhow, we raced back from their to the house, came upon no cars the entire time (city was shut down mostly) saw lots of people walking, had about 6 people take pictures of us, had to detour via sidewalks around 4 RTD buses that slid sideways blocking roads, and spent over 7 hours in the snow. We were both beat physically from trying to force our way through block full of 2 feet of snow and falling multiple times, especially on the plowed steets where we could get to top speed. Anyhow, just wanted to post up a few pics here on Ruckus Central. My commute recently changed from 2 miles to 12 miles to work so my Ruckus has been parked in favor of a shuttle bus (thankfully one exists between the two hospitals!) while it's been cold. And now I want to be able to go more than 33 mph.
My roommate Mark drinking a beer on the sidewalk outside the bar we stopped at.
The best plowed street of the journey. Notice the depth of snow in the background.
Same well plowed street and me taking a break.
Bus blocking the street. Shows the snow depth pretty good too. That's Mark on the top.
