As an 18 year old that works for the Government I have been looking for a good scooter that will get me 3.5 miles to work and back everyday and something to have a little fun in as far as speed. I went to the Cycle shop in my town and took one look at it and couldn't walk away from it. I asked the dealer how much it was and knew right then and there that that would be the scooter for me. The only problem is that I went on a weekend hoping to be able to drive home with one that day but unfotunately I could not get a loan because it was the weekend. I am a metalhead and big into late nights having fun with speed and offroading and I noticed the tires on this Ruckus are big for its size and so that was a major plus for me. The only problem that remains is I am not too good with upgrading parts on any vehicle and would like to be able to get this baby up to 50mph if at all possible on the most affordable but durable way and I am on a budget. I am only pulling in around $850/month so every dollar counts. From reading everything on this forum I noticed that there are high beams on this moped and from what I have noticed in this forum, they aren't all that bright. My question is what bulbs would be super bright but not heat up the glass so bad?
To do these upgrades and modifications to this scooter, wouldn't you have to redesign the engine to suit all of them?
I am glad I found this forum but now I just have to wait until Monday to go in and get this loan through. I will keep you all posted on this. Thank you

Everybody have different opinions on this subject, but "my opinion" is, get a set of lighter variator weights (rollers) from Battlescooter, and that should get you more acceleration, shaving the spacer and face will get you about 3 more mph, money wise that is the most cost efficient option, after that, any increase in performance will be less dramatic and a lot more expensive, and again this is just my opinion

My tech info is limited. My solution to most problems is the same. Buy a drink holder. So you have somthing to do when putting along at 30.

If you want something that will do 50mph and you don't want to do alot of upgrades you might want to think about a 150cc scooter. It won't be nearly as cool as the ruck but the 50mph mark around here seems to be the Holy Grail that no one has been able to reach. Don't take me wrong I love my ruckus and I'm sure you will enjoy one if you get one but 50mph is a bar that I think is above the ruck. Oh and welcome to the board! ;D
oh yeah, good bulbs to get would be some phillips silverstars h4s(9003's on the package I think). They are 55/65w and are okay for the ruck and they are much better that the stock 35/35w's.

I think 60mph is the max anyone will ever get a stock ruckus motor. 50mph is possible without a 4-valve head and without it bored out and I think those two mods could add about 10mph.

In my estimation going even 50MPH is way past the capability of the stock brakes on my little Ruckus. On a 40+mph downhill near my house I needed to stop (cow in the road) and I just made it. To think of more than 50MPH without major brake/front suspension would be a scary thing and in my estimation (50yrs of riding) would be on the wrong side of the margin of safety. JMHO

It is a tough situation. The right thing to do would be to upgrade everything so you'd have the dio fork, Showa shock, dio disc brakes and perhaps bigger rims/wheels. Those mods would run you about 2000$ though so it's tempting to just do the engine mods.
