People have tried it... there was no improvement. The Ruckus engine, though high-compression, was designed for low octane gas. Remember it's a scooter, designed to be a fuel saver and money saver. It uses small amounts of cheap gas to get you where you want to go with a big smile on your face.

My Honda mechanic stressed the importance of high octane gas. Said it would keep the exhaust from carbon deposits.

Hey now, this board is for fun lovin' ruckus fans. Now as far as octane goes, it's pointless. I'll admit, when I first got my scooter, I put 93 in for the first three months. My thought was, "This is a brand new scooter, I'm going to give it the best gas." But as far as engine performance, it's useless. I was sitting in the hot tub at the health club the other day and there were these guys in there talking about taking their cars to the track to race. These guys looked like the type to have honda civics and the type to wish they were Vin Diesel. Anyway, they were talking about how they had to stop at the store to pick up some octane boost and blah blah blah. I wanted to say so bad, "So, you guys really have no clue about racing do you."

Low octane is fine. What matters more it getting it from a good place. If your gas station pumps gas out of an old rusty 50 gallon can you should go some place else.

I got really bad carbon build up. If its not from low octane gas, maybe someone can tell me what its from.

Carbon build up where? In the exhaust?

Yeah in the exhaust right at the manifold where it connects to the pipe. (right inside the pipe)

If I pull off the exhaust pipe and look in it, its right inside the opening.

Sounds like you are burning oil, switch to a heavier grade one, gasoline of higher octane will not make a diference.

So, I don't know if anyone read my "stalling" post. But, for some reason, 93 helps it not stall as easily as opposed to 87. To me, in my technical logic, this doesn't make sense. I will admit that it does still stall a bit. But, just not as much as when I switch to 87. One of these days I'll take a look at Rocky and figure this problem out...

read awhile back about the 87 vs 92 octan..and after running 92 and not feeling like it ran as well as when I bought it (the previous owner always used 87) I switched back to 87..and i do belive i've noticed a different.. Doesn't stall as easily, runs smoother off the line and holds the top speed easier.. atleast I think so.. So from my latest observations, 87 is the way to go.
