Hola! I have a 04' Ruck, It has just over 400 miles on it now. My avg. top speed on it for a good day is about 38mph. I'm looking at getting a new Variator for it, but am wondering which one? The KN Or Polini? I weigh about 160... Will also be adding a yosh exhaust, and a UNI foam filter and rejetting the carb . Should I consider a CDI? And what speed should I beable to pull after that? Thanks for your help!!

I weigh between 5 to 15 lbs more than you (depending on how much I've ate or am wearing)... I put a polini with mixed weights in my '04, and I pulled a very high 39 or a low 40. Not much trouble keeping up with Skuuter and his wife's '07s until my girl got to the lower redline of our older Ruckii.

I really like the fit and finish of the Polini unit, the KN looks good but seem to miss some parts that you have to reuse from the stock unit and most people loose top end (top speed)

Thanks guys sounds like the Polini is a solid way to go. But what about mixing the weights? Don't they wear out faster that way?? So should I think about getting a set of 6 gram rollers then? Aren't the 5.6's in the stock Polini kit a little too light.....?

Mixing is okay in the short term but in the long term the heavier weights wear out faster so it's not a super great idea.

6g Metro weights and you're set. I also wiegh 160 and my Polini pulls hard with the 6g setup.

jc250r over at TR is selling some custom OEM honda weights that should be even better than 6g stock weights, give him a PM!

Of course, I just found this article after I placed an order for the KN.
Am I hosed? I'm 190lbs, and mainly want to keep my power on uphills, which based on the Battlescooter Go Faster article, suggested the KN.
But everyone else seems to love the Pollini.
What's the deal? Is Pollini that superior all around, or just for maxing out top speed?

I very recently installed the polini. With the right weights I got all-around better performance; slight hill climb, 4mph redline(I believe), 2mph top cruise, and a couple seconds off my 0-35 time. CAn't speak for KN, but the polini was worth the money.

Hey guys, new to the site as well. I dont have a Ruckus yet but a friend of mine does and im really interested in getting a scooter but dont really have my heart set on any particular one just yet.
Would you guys recommend a late model Ruckus over a late 60's/early 70's Honda Mini Trail (Z50)? I really like the look of the older Mini Trail. I love customizing and I did some research on the Ruckus and it does have quite a bit of aftermarket Japanese parts available for it online as does the Mini Trail.
I appreciate the feedback, thanks guys.

I just ordered a KN from bss..i'll let you know how it is when it gets here..it's half the price of the polini and from what I hear is the one to go with if you need town cruising power on a stock engine..i'm pretty heavy too so I wouldn't exploit the taller gearing of the polini..
