Hi Leek: Have you or your wife had any issues with air coming up from the bottom of the windshield? The reason I ask is that in one or two of the photos you posted, there appears to be somewhat of a gap between the bottom of the shield and the front of the bike. Just wondering if you've noticed any problems especially at higher speeds (say, 65 MPH). Also, here's a really dumb question. Do we have the 7/8" handlebar or the 1"? I am thinking that we have the 7/8" but I am too lazy to go down to the parkade, uncover the bike, and measure the bars!

I have had one chance to ride since I installed the leg guards and it was so foggy I couldn't get up any speed. There is some turbulence between the windshield bottom and top of the leg guards but it doesn't bother me. It is soooo much better with both installed than without. I ride my Ruckus and Silverwing with Gerbing electric jacket liner and gloves and don't really notice the wind, guess I cheat a little. I'm pretty sure the handle bars are 7/8" but have not measured yet.

Leek,
Just a thought on the Rubber Nut Certs. Are they removable after the fact?, it seems that this would be necessary if you are attaching the shields to plastic panels that might have to be removed at some later date without disturbing the leg shields. Just wondering whether that might be the reason that Honda includes the push pins for some of the attachments.
I checked the Willie & Max site and they don't list Tour Master Bags with ref. # 78-322, but Sporttour. com do, i wonder if this is their own product reference. I am trying to identify the bags on the Willie Max site so that i can give the correct info to my dealer in Canada.

Hi Silverwind. I gave you a bum steer on Willie & Max, I do have some of their bags but the ones on the BR are made by Tour Master, sorry about that. Another name for the nut certs is well nuts and they will come out when needed. Where they are located they should never have to be removed unless you had to replace the piece they are mounted in. They don't interfere with anything inside. Leek

Hi Leek,
I have the Tour Master on the computer and have identified your medium size slant bag, will now check the dealers for availability, would the large size also fit without touching the exhaust?? how much clearance do you have with the medium bag.
The Leg Shields are now paid for and on order so i should receive them within a couple of weeks. I have found an English web Site that describes the Well Nuts and illustrates the application method, will now check the local hardware store. Why did you have problems with the Push Pins? Just curious.

Silverwind:
Where did you buy your Slip Streamer windshield from. Did you buy it locally or did you have to bring it in from the US?

Good afternoon Silverwind. The push pins are only about 3/8" long and the leg guards are a bit spring loaded at the bottom and I could see that they would come out and you could snag your foot on the edge of the guard, I like things to be strong and secure. The clearance on my bags from the muffler are far enough to not do harm to the bags, I will try to get out the the garage tomorrow and take a measurment. I'm just too lazy tonight, besides its freezing out there. Take care, talk soon. leek

Silverwind: Where did you buy your Slip Streamer windshield from. Did you buy it locally or did you have to bring it in from the US? Hi gagetgirl, The Slipstreamer windshields are sold throughout Canada and the US. My dealer got the screen for me overnight from their supplier. It is a very popular brand and your scooter dealer should have no problem in obtaining one for you. Have you checled with him?? If not you could probably order one from a Canadian source and have it shipped, that would mean of course that you wouldn't have the opportunity of checking it before final purchase. I would check all your local dealers first and see whether they can get one for you.

Leek, Are we just talking about the bottom attachment next to the foot rest?? how many push pins are involved and how many Well Nuts?? if it's only the lower fixing then the leg shield at this point is bolted to the foot rest and are pretty secure i would think.I assume the push pins are the same as the ones used throughout the BG to secure the various plastic panels?? I checked my local hardware store and they don't have the Well Nuts but are going to try and find a source, if they can't i might be stuck with the push pins.
My dealer doesn't deal with Tour Master but does have Willie Max bags, are they similar to the Tour Master with the zip connection??
Thanks for all your help, i really appreciate it.

Hi Silverwind:
Thanks for the info.. I will talk to some of the local dealers to see if they can get one. The problem is that, if they have to order it, then they want you to buy it. In fact, some of them make you pay for it up front. Maybe some of the dealers have a few shields in stock that I could try for height (even if they are not Slip Streamer).
Ya know, I don't blame the local dealers for not carrying much stock. It's pretty hard to invest a lot of money in stock that may or may not move. As a customer though, its frustrating. Sometimes I think I should just go on a tour through the States and pick up all the things I want along the way! I guess its a bit late for that now though since I have ordered many things already from the States. Oh well, such is the life of a Canadian Ruckus owner!

Good morning Gagetgirl and Silverwind. I purchased my Slipstreamer shield from Bent Bide in Auburn Wa (just south of Seattle, they also have a store in Lynnwood Wa north of Seattle). The push pins are much smaller than the ones used on the BR. If you notice on my picture there is a small shiny screw next to the floor board and about an inch above, this is where the push pin was to be used. The Tour Master bags are the only ones I know of that will zip off and they are semi-hard and much higher quality than Willie & Max. Mine are about 2.5" above the muffler. I will try to get a web site or connection for you to purchase the well nuts. If that don't work maybe we can get in touch with each other and I will get some for you. I will do some checking and get back to you later today. leek

Gagetgirl and Silverwind We have some good info for you. The well nuts can be purchased from (www.mcmastercarr.com). Just search for well nuts, they even show pictures of them. The Slipstreamer shield I have can be purchased from (www.bentbike.net) email is (bentbikeweb@comcast.net) or phone 1-800-328-8810. Hope this will help some. Take care. leek

Thanks Leek for the web site, very useful, now i know exactly what to search for. If i can't get a local source i appreciate your offer to send me some and of course i can mail the funds to cover the cost, this would be prefferable to ordering online and facing the hassles of border fees etc, you can just put them in an envelope and air mail them to me. But first let me exhaust the local outlets, they have such a wide variety of uses that i will be surprised if they are not readily available up here.
I will make a more thorough search in Victoria for the Tour Master bags, i have the company web site on the computer, the only problem is that they do not list the number reference that you gave me. You have the medium i believe, do you think the large size would also fit??
Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.

Silverwind Here is another web site that has a picture of the saddle bags. I'm not sure how the large bags would fit. (www.motorcycle-superstore.com) Check it out. leek

Leek & Silverwind:
Okay, not quite sure why I did this but I ordered a Maier windshield from Dennis Kirk (in the US). I know, I know, I said that I was going to wait until I could try one locally. However, after doing my research I just decided to go for it (I am also kind of impatient). Why a Maier and not a Slip Streamer? Again, not sure about my rationale. I read somewhere about the Maier (maybe it was one of you who posted something about it. If not, then I read it elsewhere). At any rate, the Maier is very very similar to the SlipStreamer model that Leek has. I have to go pick it up today so if I get bored over the holiday, I might install it. When I do, I will post photos.
Hope you have a great holiday.

Good morning gagetgirl. Good show. I'll bet someone makes the windshield and Maier and Slip Streamer put their name on it. I just looked at the web pictures and the mount hardware and shield look the same as mine. The only thing I have found with our shields is the little thumb screw will vibrate loose until you get some miles on it. Just keep an eye on it and keep it tight, over time it will seat itself and stay tight. Good luck, enjoy the ride. Summer is coming!!!! ;D

Hi gagetgirl,
Glad you now have a windscreen, I'm sure you will appreciate the extra protection, especially when you get the leg shields installed, I had the same problem with the thumb screw and finally put some Permatex Threadlocker Blue on the threads and the problem was immediately solved. The blue is the medium strength and allows future removal and i throughly recommend it to avoid the problem. The Threadlocker is specifically designed to resist loosening by vibration.

Hi leek,
I now have the Well Nuts in my possession, picked them up at our Island auto supply shop, and the Leg Shields are on the way and should arrive within the next week. Looking at your photo's it would appear that the Shields are attached too the two existing bolts on the foot rests, a second fixing at the existing bolt on the frame and then the two Well Nut's one at the top and the second at the bottom. Am i correct that these are the total fixings or are there more attachment points. I only managed to get four Well Nuts and assume that only two are required.

Hi Silverwind. You will only need two of the well nuts. The attach points are from top to bottom, top is a well nut, next one is existing under the parking brake cover, next is the large existing one that gets changed out (allen head, for a hex head bolt)next down is the added well nut and the bottom is the inboard forward bolt of the floor board. It gets a longer bolt that threads into a stand-off with nut under the floor board. I love the way Honda plans and lays out everything, it makes for a great setup. I also measured my windshield and it is the same size as the Maier windshield, I'm sure they are from the same mold. Supposed to have some sun and warmer temps on Friday so we might get some miles on the new leg guards. Take care.
