Hey Leekster, nice job with the photos. Way to go. The windshield looks good. I think I will check out that model. It might be better for me than the other slipstreamer model (the universal), since the spitfire is adjustable. Many thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Hi gagetgirl,
Just a point to keep in mind when making your final choice of windscreen, the disadvantage with mounting the windscreen on the handlebars is that the screen has to set high enough to clear the front bar as you can see on the photo, this leaves a large gap where the wind blasts through. That is why the Japanese model is mounted on the frame out in front of the bar allowing the screen to set lower. If you mount the screen as i suggested then it would be even lower for even more protection, you will also get more vertical adjustment by sliding the mounting bracket up and down on the bar. Of course the screen is also adjustable but only by a few inches, there is also a smaller Universal model of course. Just food for thought, both screens look great but maximum protection is what we are striving for here in the frozen north.
My problem with the smilies is that when i click on them nothig happens not even a symbal, do you just click on the selected smilie or drag it or what??? all very frustrating.

Hi Silverwind:
You make some excellent points. When I saw the photo of the Spitfire screen, I did wonder, in fact, about the gap and whether or not wind would cut through there.
You know, its so hard to make decisions about products when you can't see/touch them. Arghh.
Thanks, again, for sharing your information. I'll let you know what I end up doing although I probably won't do anything until spring!

That don't look too bad.
Chanito, according to that Ruckus customizer thing on Honda Japan, they do have some manner of fairing for the Ruckus over there...

Hi gagatgirl,
I have just finished studying leek's photo's of the installed leg shields and realised that you will not be able to mount the windshield in the location that i suggested because the shields are too tight to the vertical portion of the frame, therefore not allowing enough room for the mounting bracket, so i guess you are better with the handlebar mount after all. The same applies to me unless there is some way that i can cut out the top of the shield to accommodate the bracket fitting. Sorry for the bum steer, i should have studied the pic's more carefully before shooting my mouth off!!!!

Like I kind of said (or implied) earlier, I think my best bet is to actually try some windshields here locally (once I have installed the legshields). It's just too hard (and costly) trying to order parts on line -- you never know if they're going to fit or not. And after paying duty, taxes and exchange on parts, and then having to exchange or return them -- the whole thing gets a little ridiculous. As a "Canuck" I am sure you can appreciate this point of view!

Hey tedsmini,
The penny just dropped and i realised that i will not be able to mount the leg shields and keep the windshield brackets in the present location on the vertical portion of the bar. Referring back to the windscreen on Honda Japan's site they have it attached to the top portion of the bar above the leg shields and this is the only way it can work. I haven't tried to mount it this way but it could work, the only problem would be that it will be more forward and higher, although the built in adjustment can possibly take care of this problem and the screen could be angle back more. I assume that you have the CF40 model if so maybe, if you have the time, you could try this alternate mounting to see whether it will work and let me know the result. In the interim i am putting the leg shields on hold. The alternative would be to cut out a portion at the top of the shields to accommodate the brackets, looking at leek's photo's this could possibly work.

Hi Leek,
I am eager to order the leg shields but have a problem with the location of the mounting bracket for my windscreen as you can see from my photo on page two of this thread. In your opinion, having installed the shields and therefore having hands on experience, do you think that i could neatley cut out a space at the top of the shields to accommodate the screen bracket, it looks like it should work as i would only have to cut a portion of the top and still retain the screw fixing, but i would appreciate your input.
I noticed you have a pair of what look like really nice bags on the rear, i have to replace mine soon and i was wondering if you could give me the make and model reference, i would like to check whether they are available here in Canada. Do you have any pic's from the rear that show the bags??
Thanks in advance for your help.

Good morning silverwind. I think you can still keep your windshield and mount the leg guards and NOT do any cutting on them. The upper section will flex and can be pulled back and mount at least an inch to the rear. The top screw is one that you mark and drill. There is an existing screw under the lower forward corner of the parking brake cover. The bags I have are Willie & Max, and can be removed by unzipping each. I will check at the house when I get home tomight to see what model they are and also post a rear view of the bike and bags. ;D

Hi leek,
Thanks for the input, i think you are right in suggesting that the shields will clear the bracket with a little flexing. In your earlier post you mentioned relacing the push pins with Rubber Nut- Certs, i am not familiar with this product name, maybe we use a different reference up here in the frozen north. Could you clarify exactly what the nut-certs are, do they just screw into the hole or what?? are there nut-certs supplied with the shields that i will be able to use as a sample when i go to the hardware store? I agree the push pins are a joke, i assume they are the same as the pins that are used on the Ruckus to fix the plastic panels in place, i have already replaced 1/2 doz , really stupid.
I look forward to the photo's of the bags and receiving the model no., in the interim i will do a google and see if they come up on the web

Hey gagetgirl,
Just received an e-mail from Jason at Battlescooter and he is ordering the handguards, they will be in stock in February. Thought you would like to know. I am about to order the leg shields and will get the hand guards later. With these few additions the BG is even more perfect, hard to beat.

There is two rubber threaded inserts included with the leg guards. I didn't measure the threads but my guess is they are metric. You can take one to the local hardware store and show them and they should have some. I used the 6-32 thread size which requires a 5/16 inch hole, same as those with the kit. These things look like a half in long rubber tube with metal threads in one end and a flange at the other end. You drill the hole to match the outside diameter of the tube and push it into the hole and seat it against the flange. When you put the screw in and tighten it the rubber tube expands to keep it in the hole. (Similar to the old thermos bottle cork with the lever on top.)Anyway they work great.

Another shot of the rear with bags installed and before the leg guards were installed. The nice thing about these bags they can be removed easy, just unzip and take them with you.

Hi gagetgirl,
No he didn't quote a price just said that he was ordering and expected to have them in Feb. He probably hasn't set a price as yet but at least we do know they will be available and that's good news.

Thanks Silverwind. I am curious about the price but still think I will end up buying locally. I can't tell from the one picture of the BR handguards whether or not I actually like them. Plus, I am kinda miffed that Jason has not responded to either of my emails. I guess I should be more supportive of his new business but I have to admit, I have very little patience for businesses that don't respond to customers requests.
Anyway, enough bitching . . . thanks for the info. and, yes, post the price once you get it.
