My BR is running to rich. How can I adjust the carburetor?

Oh I didn't expect to actually get any questions...I'd love to answer your question but I only know the little Ruckus so I don't feel very qualified to answer. However I will toss out a few suggestions. First, how do you know it's running rich? Are you at a high altitude or unusually hot climate? The easiest way to correct that it seems is by taking it in to your dealer and getting them to do it under warrentee. However, if that's not an option for you than the easiest way is probably just to block a bit of the airflow via a bit of tape or cardboard. Yeah that's pretty ghetto but it's simple and easily adjustable. If you actually want to get in to adjusting your carb then I'd imagine just dropping your main jet down a size would do the trick. I don't know what the stock size is because I'm a lil'ruck guy but you could either wait longer for someone else to respond, buy the service manual or open up your carb and check cuz it'll be written on the jet. You should be able to order a new jet from your honda dealer by changing the part number as illustrated below: Assuming the stock jet is a 125 (1.25mm) then the part number should look something like XXX-XXX-XXX-1250 so to get a 120 (1.20mm) jet just ask them to order part # XXX-XXX-XXX-1200. I can't say for sure that that'll work for you but it does for the little Ruckus so it's worth a shot. To get into the carb if it's anything like the little Ruckus you'll just need to detatch most of the hoses and wires and cables and then flip it over. Then just screw off the bottom and the main jet will be right there and you can easily remove it with a flat bladed screw driver and screw the new one it and then button things up. Good luck and Welcome to Ruckus Central

Thank's for the advice. I hate the Honda dealer in my town, so I try to have as little to do with them as possible. My BR is bogging down under heavy acceleration, and I notice a huge improvement when it's cold out. I think I'll probably just take it into the dealer

You'll probably find that another shop is significantly cheaper than your dealer but if you'd rather go to your dealer then that's fine.
About what I said about using tape or cardboard to block some airflow...I wasn't thinking at all there. You'd want more airflow to make up for your surplus of gas. It would be sweet if you could increase your airflow instead of decreasing your gas because then you'd have more power. I'm not sure what's out there for the big ruckus but you could check the battlescooterstore.com to see what they have for high flow filters for your BR. Also, there's a decent chance a lawnmower filter will fit in. Some Briggs and Stratton filters fit perfectly in the little Ruckus and that's what I use because they outflow the stock filter nicely. You could take your filter into your local hardware store and see if you can find something similar pretty much anything should outflow the stocker because Honda uses pretty thick paper.

I agree with DD, if the BR is running fine with the cold start on then you are Lean not Rich so the extra fuel is helping the engine, you might have a hose loose some where

uhh...if he runs better in the cold then when it's warm out he should be RICH because when it warms up your have less oxygen due to the air expanding. You options BWPara seem to either increase the airflow or decrease the gas. I had a look at the BR airfilter and you can't really buy a high flow aftermarket one very easy so dropping the main jet a size might be your best option.

I'll be moving to oregon soon, and I'll be living at three thousand feet, so I'll have to do something about it for sure when I get there anyway. It will be a good chance to check out my local Honda dealer. Thanks for the advice.

I ordered a stiffer spring to increase the acceleration , but I have no idea how hard to install it. Is it very difficult?

From the battlescooter store? If you're talking about the big spring that's maybe 2" in diameter and roughly 6" tall then yeah it's hard to install. That goes inside the rear clutch and resists the weights which are trying to push you into a taller gear. The result is that you stay geared lower longer.
To install it you'll need to remove the drive cover and then remove the rear clutch which will probably require a strap wrench or an inpact drill to get the outer clutch bell off. Then you'll need to remove kind of a clip that holds it together and then it'll explode apart because of the force of the spring you're replacing. Then just gather the pieces and reassemble it using a new spring and a new clip.
Realistically, if you don't like getting in too deep mechanically then I'd just say take the drive cover off and remove the clutch but bring the whole thing into a shop and ask them to replace the spring.
To do the job properly you really need a compressor so it does explode and a few other handy tools.

I am looking at a used '06 big ruckus with 4000 miles on it. My husband is worried about it being used. :)How many miles can I expect to put on a ruckus before it starts to break down? 4000 miles sounds pretty small to me...... Also, is the big ruckus pretty sturdy/reliable?

4K doesn't sound like a lot. If you're worried, you can look into reliability reports on the Honda Reflex scooter, which has been around way longer and is the same powertrain.
But it's a Honda, unless the previous owner ragged the hell out of it, I don't think 4K is all that much.
