Ok, I know there are other threads about people installing speakers, amps, etc on their Rucks, but they are hard to find and usually just have pictures of completed work. I am looking at installing my own sound system on my 2003 Ruckus and need some help. After completing this project I will edit posts to make a decent how-to for any newcomers. My main question right now is: How much can the stock electrical system run? At what point will the charging system be inadequate and my battery start to die? I'm looking at this 100 watt Mini Amplifier, and mainly want to know if there will be any problem if it was hooked up. cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=160222321654&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=006Specifications

Ok so I checked out the electrical information in my Ruck's owners manual and it says the generator puts out 0.19 kW. That works out to 190 watts, meaning that if you go over 190 watts (including lights and ignition, etc) your battery will drain.

In my experience, an extra 50 watts in the max you can add without your battery slowly draining. I've installed dual 65w headlights (+60 watts total) and a few weeks later my battery was dead. With just one 65w headlight (+30w) I ran around for months with no troubles....so I would say 40-50watts is the max you can continually draw but if you add a stereo that is off a good portion of the time you should be able to draw a lot more.
The Ruckus alternator is rated at 190w as you mentioned but I think that's at 6000 RPM so at 7000 RPM (which is a more realistic cruising RPM) you'd be putting around around 210-220w I'd imagine.
The system you mentioned (200W) total sounds a bit too extreme but it might work fine and just not be as loud as it could be.
Also, you could just wire in an easy way to charge your battery so you could run a lot of watts and just charge it when you get home.

heres a quick mock up.. thats a 600W amp so thats definately overkill for those 2 speakers. but the question should be..can we get the stock alternator to give us more watts and it not, can we get a better alternator on the ruckus? and id rather have just an ipod instead of the cd player..but i had one laying around for the picture.

or maybe another question is..can we have 2 batteries charging from the single alternator? and how well would that work?

If I really wanted to have some sort of sound system on my Ruckus I would install the plastic underseat storage. Then I would put a small 100w amp inside powered by a serperate battery that was hooked up to a solar battery charger (you could just lay it on your seat every now and then to recharge while it's parked). I would try to fab it up for 2 6"x9" speakers to come out the side of the box. All audio input would be directly from an iPod with NO head unit.
All of this could be done very compact and out of the weather while still leaving a little space for some extra storage.
I'd rather just listen to my iPod in one ear and run the risk of the ticket.

I don't understand how you got 200watts. I'm not that knowledgeable in building sound systems. So my mp3 player hooked up to that 100watt amp powering two 4" 25watt (8 nominal) speakers would be too much? Would that set up equal 150watts?

The amp draws from the battery. The speakers draw from the amp. If you have a 100w amp with 500w subs connected you are still only drawing 100w. Your amp is your control not your speakers.

all the amp rating on the speakers means is that DONT give them more power than that or they will die and you will need to burry them.

:)Why would you want to do this? Oh well. Your item of concern is amperage draw from the battery and it's replenishment from the alternator. Your system will not draw any current if it is turned off. If you turn it on you should always have the engine running on the Ruck. It will draw a certain amount of current when it is on even if the volume controls are such that it is inaudible. From there the amount of current it will draw is dependent on the setting of your volume controls to a large extent. I predict that it will work fine as long as you don't turn the volume up to high. I doubt that the amp's idle current is enough to bring down your Ruckus but it will be enough to bring down your battery without the running alternater. So I think it will work OK. As long as you disconnect the headlights and all that. :)Horn.

the amp is 100watts, two 50watts each. the speakers i plan to use are no more that 40watt max i believe. the amp also has a powerswitch and i would only turn it on when the ruck is on, so i think i'll be fine then.
thanks

Right now it appears those speakers are running free air. If you can enclose them somehow, they will perform MUCH better. RadioShack used to carry 6x9 speaker boxes that might be suitable...but are probably too big to fit comfortably on a Ruckus. Cutting out a hole in the side of a Metro's trunk and using the trunk itself as an enclosure might help, even with the obvious air leaks.
An ideal solution might a specially adapted topcase. Speaker holes would be cut, while the case itself would contain an amp and perhaps a spare battery, all self enclosed and under lock and key. The whole unit could have a quick disconnect to the scooter's charge circuit.
oh, and BTW, I'm new here.
I have a 2007 Metro, derestricted, with Posh Super battle CDI (and I have a WONDERFUL install method that the all of y'all might like), Kitaco rear shock, windshield, basket, and GIVI topcase.

IF I were installing sound I would...Order some marine/boat(waterproof) speakers from JC Whitney and mount them(kinda like saddlebags) on the back.Power them with a small amp under the seat as another poster suggested, with NO head unit, only an ipod or Mp3 player.

Im try to find out the same stuff man. I got a 100 watt amp and speaker kit that is designed for bikes but i don't know if the stock battery box can fit it in there and most of all will it hurt anything and if so do I have mod or put something in it to even do such a thing. The amps RMS true power is around 50 watts on the very most average, so if any one could help me out as well on detail that would be more cool. Thanks guys

I’m looking to install a system myself, it’s a 400w Rockford power amp. I have a gy6 150cc with an 11 pole stator. Y’all think that’s sufficient to run my system or do I need to upgrade something?
