I took out the oil strain cleaner and cleaned it. But when I put it back it seemed to be sticking out too far. Maybe it's just me. When I put it back in I can still see the strainer itself? Is it supposed to be in the engine more (out of site). I had to push on the spring a little hard to get the cap back on. Also, do I change the O ring? I assume I'm supposed to lube the O ring also? Any advice would help.
thanks

Hmm...you did put the strainer screen in the right way right? You're probably just paranoid but cheque out the microfiche diagram on ronayers.com if you want to see a diagram of how it goes.

Hornjeff,
I just changed my oil yesterday, so I can help out. The oil filter screen mounts inside the case with the screen facing you. Just push it in as far as it can go. The spring that is connected to the drain plug will keep the screen in place.
I cleaned my screen with kerosene, then air blasted it with compressed air. The "o" ring that is on the drain plug I did not replace. Only need to replace it if damaged or if the plug leaks.
My screen was a little dirty, had a few metal squiggles, a piece of what looked like engine gasket cement and some yellowish-brown discoloration. This was my first oil change at 325 miles, as I feel 600 miles is too much.
