Hello all. First off, I am a new Big Ruckus owner and am happy to be part of the group. Just purchased a new '05 leftover and installed a hour/tach meter from Hardline Products, cost was 43 bucks at my local cycle repair shop. The pickup wire that came with the tach was not long enough for my installation, so I used some leftover Radio Shack antenna rotor wire.
To get a nice clean installation I removed the left side panels and routed the wire from the spark plug through the center of the BR and up through the cables going to the speedometer. I used velcro ties to anchor the wire at different points.
I installed the tiny tachometer just above the speedometer using colored plastic ties and attached it above the instrument cluster. No need to drill or use double sided tape.
The only challenge I had was keeping the pickup wire inside the tach wire channel, so I glued it in. No electrical connections are necessary, At the spark plug, you simply wrap the pickup wire 4 - 5 times around the plug wire, making a sort of coil, and hold it in place with a twist tie.
Nice neat installation, I have a picture to share:

The tach/hour meter works fine, I needed this to check idle speed. There are a number of other tachs out there at much higher prices, but I think this one is about the cheapest.
By the way, the place I bought my Big Ruckus has one more new '05 in stock. Horner Honda in Salisbury, MD.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for all the good info you are providing.
