The '06 is longer and have a more smooth taper so it helps on mid range, but appears it is too long on 05' so you need either a bigger main or just cut it to pre '06 lenght , here is a pic with the part number in case you want to experiment

hey chanito, why is going up on the main jet another option to cutting the 06 needle to pre05 needle length?

hey chanito, why is going up on the main jet another option to cutting the 06 needle to pre05 needle length? I do not have an 06 carb handy, so i can not really confirm why the extra lenght on the 06 needle, but my educated guess, is that it has to do with the new PCV system giving extra air at mid needle rise so the jet is bigger to compensate and the needle is always in the jet restricting flow at full throttle to compensate for this, installing a bigger jet will give you full flow, but will run rich at part throttle However is way easier to do than cutting the needle

ohh ic, also why is cutting the needle a real difficult task? is it what i think...grinding the needle to a extremely fine point like how they look like originally?

Yeah you can use an 06 needle in an older Ruck. It fits perfectly. Regarding a shim...I prefer just to make them out of a beer cap. However with slow jets now available I havent needed to mess with shimming anymore.

Simple.
Take the old needle and place it next to the new one. Mark the old length on the new one with permanent marker. Make sure to leave enough room to compensate for the thickness of the cutting blade you are going to use and for filing down the point.
Using a Dremel, cut off the excess needle length, then roughly shape the tip of the needle to a point (it helps to use a magnifying glass for us old folks). Then using fine sandpaper and a hard surface, carefully sharpen the needle tip evenly until the tip resembles the old one. Clean thoroughly.
Enjoy.

With that said, that means the needle tip doesn't have to be 100% perfect?

I don't think anything we do is ever 100%. Mine works fine and I figure it can't be better than 90%.
The eye is a very precise measuring tool. You'll be amazed at how close you can get it by just "eyeballing" it.
Anyway, I think the point is just to help direct the needle into the hole.

With that said, that means the needle tip doesn't have to be 100% perfect? It might be soft enough to use a small pencil sharpener maybe just some sandpaper on the edges of a pencil sharpener

well shaved the needle today, actually really easy just as Blackruk taught me...i just stuck my needle into the dremel and angled it by sanding it on a sandpaper as the dremel spinned the needle

I just switched back to my pre '06 needle (it was running rich 10-20 mph). I needed to reduce fuel. It runs much better now.
So, switching to the '06 needle does make a difference if you need a little more mid-range gas (and vice versas).
