In the owners manual it says it should be gap 0.031-0.035 in. What difference if any would there be if gap at it's min vs it's max? I seem to remember reading somewhere, a long time ago that a new plug should be gap at it's max and then further in it's lifetime, gap near it's min gap as it's wearing down.
Truth or myth?.

8-)This is kind of wierd, you want the gap as big as the coil and wire can take it, too big a gap and then it become too hard for the coil to fire or the wire start leaking (spark jumping thru the wire instead of at the spark plug), however as the spark plug wears the gap grows, so if you start with a big gap (the high end of the specs) pretty soon the wear will make this gap too big, the norm is install a new plug at the narrow end of the specs and forget about it, as it wears it will still remain within the specs, sport riders or crazy people like us, will instale it at the big end of the gap, and then keep taking the spark plug regularlly to adjust the gap for wear

Go with the smaller gap ,mine run great but experiment with gaps the bigger gap was making my plug build up carbon
