Hey folks, I checked the tech section on Battlescooter and read the section in the service manual about the variator but I was just wondering if anyone out there who's upgraded their variator if they can answer this. The variator is a dry variator from what I can gather, but do you or don't you grease or oil the spacer or boss, as they call it in the service manual? If I'm reading the service manual correctly I think you just oil the inside of the spacer and not the outside. Any pearls of wisdom and experience would be greatly welcome! ;D

You're right the variator is a dry variator. I greased both ends of the spacer where it'll be rubbing on the plates but I didn't grease the center where the belt rubs cuz I didn't want to get grease on the belt. I'm not 100% sure but I think you can throw grease everywhere in the variator except where it'll get on the belt and the roller weights. Could be wrong though.... And you Dandydan are correct, is a great idea to lube any friction surface on the veriator, that is the space outer surface, just do not over do it, you do not want grease on the belt or the rollers.

Thanks for the advice guys, the other thing I got thinking after I was offline was I could spray the outside of the spacer with graphite and grease the drive shaft so the inside of the spacer is lubed but the beltside is dry.
