After tons of experimenting and messing things up here's my opinion on what size of main jet to use. My ruckus has the stock air box with the hole opened as wide as a possible. I also am running a lawnmower airfilter inside that may be slightly higher flowing but not significantly. Without further ado:
From -20C and colder: 95 Jet
(roughly 0F and lower)
From -20C - 0C: 90 Jet
(roughly 0F - 32F)
From 0C - 22C: 85 Jet
(roughly 32F - 80??)
From 22C and up: 80 Jet
(roughly 80F and up)
You'll need to consider when using my information two main things: your altitude and your airflow
I live in Southern Ontario near Kitchener/Waterloo and I think i'm pretty average for altitude but i'm not really sure. If you're at a really high/low altitude then consider using a smaller/bigger jet respectively.
My airflow is pretty well maxed out for the stock box. I've opened up the hole pretty well as much as possible.
With all this said your scoot isn't gonna run well off the line cuz you'll have to shim the needle as well. Check battlescooter.com in the tech section for details. Mine is shimmed pretty well to the max. I cut two shims out of a beer cap and slid em on. I needed to scrape a bit off of the white plastic thinger (you'll know what I mean when you go to do it) to get it put back together.
Oh, one last thing. I'm not totally sure about what temp. to drop to a 80 from an 85. I haven't had much experience with that yet cuz I wasn't messing with this yet in the summer.
Remember Kids: Your top speed is primarily determined by three things: top gear ratio, main jet size, and valve shims. The valve shims are really important. When my shims are adjusted just right the ruckus feels much happier on the top end. Regarding the top gear ratio: the choice is yours on how much low end/midrange power you wanna sacrifice but i wouldn't recommend going shorter that 35mm on the variator spacer. A few other things to consider are the rolling resistance (keep those tires properly inflated, you could try slicker tires too) and a CDI box. If you got everything else running nice your going to want a CDI box. It ads a bit of power throughout the range and a bit on the top (I think) and really lets you get rippin down hills. It's a pretty magical experience when your used to the ruckus kinda dying off around 41mph down a hill and then suddenly it just keeps pulling into the high 40's! People have different opinions but I love my CDI. However you won't really notice it if something else isn't right. In closing (since this had turned into a flippin essay!) i really encourage you all to keep on top of the valve shims cuz i suspect thats were most of your top end is going. Once you've done that buy the H.O. Cam from the store.
