Has anyone else noticed a difference in performance since winter and colder weather has set in? Maybe we can get a list of problems people are having due to cold and what can be done about it.
I have noticed a bog at about 10mph then it picks up again and runs fine. Sorry I dont have a tach yet to give a better reading. Soon.

I've had trouble reaching terminal velocity... but I think that's just constant wind in my face... ha!

I notice it too, mostly wacking the throttle open from a low speed during cold weather. I don't notice in the summer. It'll bog for a second or so then pick up again. Something to do with more oxygen in colder air, leans it out?

Yeah cold weather has made my ruckus develop a flat spot around 4500 rpm but as soon as you get to 5k seems ok, but i hardly ever get past forty now, the scooter just get to 7500 and stays there, it use to get to almost 8k before. Oh well i will just have to wait for those warm days again.

My belief is that it's just a little too lean. Companies always make bikes too lean in one place and too rich in another. I'm pretty sure it's just to keep us on our toes.

Other than air/fuel mix issues other cold weather effects include: - You ignition can freeze. This only happened to me once in mid february at about minus 15C (5F? ?). - Tire PSI drops so you may need to add a few PSI

Went for my first cool weather scoot this morn. since re-jetting last week for optimum top speed/rpm @ around 80f. The mid range bog is back @58f and was all but unnoticeable @80. I got all the way up to 8950rpm @ 80 but this morn only made about 8700. Goofy thing is I had a tad more speed this morn. (1or2mph) at the lower rpm. I think variators have a minds of their own!!!

talking performance, as US/japan ruckii/zooms have carbs, the weather has an influence on the performance, just like for cars using carbs.
di I say something wrong?

I´m planning to use my Zoomer all winter if possible. Where I live it´s mostly around -5C to -15C in winter but somedays down to -25/30C. My worries are that the water in the coolent will freeze, that it won´t start or that plastic parts will crack. What do you guys think? Is it possible? I found some really cool Duro Hf910 with studs but I guess it will still be somewhat dangerous to drive in the streets. I´ll report my experiences if I survive..

we in europe have a 4 valve fuel injected zoomer. but nevertehless i notice performance depending on temperature. it seems to be weaker in cold conditions. especially i notice that the (malossi) variomatic depends a lot of temperature, more than the stock part. there's a huge difference in RPM when accelerating with cold or warm engine. this doesn't make it easy to find the right roller weight ....

They use the zoomer/ruckus as a short distance vehicle in the ice station on the south pole, so it should start and run in temps as low as -20 centigrade, just make sure you keep the coolant mixture right ;D ;D

Zoomer on south pole!!?? Wow...maybe they only use it in summer then when it´s as warm as -20C I think it´s hard to get a coolant mixture for lower then -25C. After that the corrosion protection won´t be sufficiant. Not sure though. In response to the topic I can´t say I´ve noticed any difference in performance yet but then again we´ve had none really warm days since I got my Zoomer 2 weeks ago. The speedo is stuck on 45km/h no matter what (tuck, downhill, uphill etc) Guess cold day/warm day won´t make a different to my zoom in speed either. Looking forward to get the Polini kit

[glow=red,2,300]"The speedo is stuck on 45km/h no matter what (tuck, downhill, uphill etc) Guess cold day/warm day won´t make a different to my zoom in speed" [/glow] Nope, your Zoomer is restricted. Read the post under General Discussion Euro Zoomer vs Ruckus.

I've noticed a difference in peformance w/my ruck also..slow pickup responce up hills..and the other day it was runnin that same hill a strait 35 easy..I'll be riding mine threw the winter this year and I know It's going to be a cold one here in northern indiana this year,So I need to make me some wind deflectors for handbars and frontside to keep the cold wind from Chillin me on the longer rides...So far Im at 3445 miles and I've had it Since May of 2005... It's My Main Transportation and will be for a while...last oil chan. It's Due for another before winter hits, and I am thinking about covering the radiator during colder weather to keep the engine running warmer. I Think that Might just work...Need to test that somehow though first.. anyone elese think that's worth tryin???

I was thinking that sense I am getting close to having to change the oil again, maybe I should go to a thinner grade of oil. I am using 10W-30 now. Maybe that will help with the slow starts, because my scoot stalled out about 3 times before I get out of my apartment complex today because we just got a big temp drop in Tennessee overnight. Being that my Ruckus is my only means of transportation would it be extremely beneficial for me to take it in to the local Honda dealership for a ”winterization” or something like that?

my ruckus stalled out in traffic this morning. it was a tad scary. i was coming to a stop and didn't notice it died until i tried to restart it.
i might try the covering the radiator idea. that might help quite a bit.

I have my radiator duct taped off and have yet to see water temp gauge move from 130 . Mine never does get warm enough to run right lately.
