so, my friend just kicked down his Ruckus to me. Only problem, no manual and I have no clue how to do anything to this thing. Nor does he. it's not running right now. The battery is dead cuz it sat for so long. I bought a new battery but have no clue how to install it. I also need to know how to change the oil. basic "edit profanity", but I haven't got the book to tell me how and it costs too much to buy one so I figured someone on here could help. I also don't feel like waiting around for an ordered manual to show up and I want this thing running asap cuz I need it. your help is greatly greatly appreticated!

To change the battery take the main piece of the front plastic off (4 screws) and then you'll be looking at the battery. Then you need to disconnect the wires from each terminal (1 screw each) and then undo the bolt holding the battery bracket in place. Then you should be able to lift it out and install the new battery When a vehicle sits that long the gas is likely toast too. Gas slowly goes bad over time....anything more than a few months and it's no good. I would remove the floorboard (take the seat frame and battery plastic cover off first) and then you can unplug the fuel line from the gas tank and drain it. You can also drain the fuel from the carb bowl by loosening the drain screw on the side of the bowl. Do this and then toss in fresh gas. Then flick the key on and wait 5 seconds and repeat about 5x. This will pump fuel up the line and refill the carb bowl. If you skip this step it'll have to crank for a while before it starts. Good luck! Where are you at?

Just as a side, the user manual isn't in the underseat compartment and nobody knew aw about it, right? I only ask because I've heard some people didn't know about the underseat compartment.

you mean where to seat flips up? yeah, it's empty.
thanks for the tips! I went home after posting this and stared at it for a while and rummaged for the right tools (which is a big task around my house) and I got the job done. way easier than my big bad motorcycle riding brother made it out to seem *cough**thanks for the help a#*hole*Cough*. Girls 1 boys 0.
still need to change the oil but that'll have to wait til the weekend.
luckily the tank was empty before they stowed it away for the winter.
it's running now. doesn't seem to have anything major messed up with it. I do wanna give it a nice round of tune ups and fluid changes but one things at a time.
this will proove to be a very interesting learning experience.
fun as hell to ride too!
oh, and I'm from PA - USA. thanks for asking

Well, the oil change is pretty easy, unless you're dumb like me and get a container to small to hold all the oil. Then you make quite a mess.

Nice name Mouse, cool a woman on a Ruckus, mine thinks it is too big and heavy for her (she is very small I guess). Check out TotalRuckus.com as well, there are lots of resources for working on your bike between the two sites. They are right, the oil change is easy, so are other maintence things. The battery is also easy but dont tighten the screws too tight on the box when you reinstall it, I just noticed a crack in the plastic on mine :0 . Read the how tos here, read and search both sites, there are butt loads of info and the people are super helpful and friendly. Welcome to the club and take some pictures. Mine was missing the book as well, (would have been in japanese anyway, I guess) you do know that you have to open the little compartment under the seat there? Just asking, I didn't have that because there was no cover on mine but I read somewhere that someone had a manual but didn't notice that, that had to be opened.

Just got my 2007 Ruckus last week, only 180 miles on it! Reading through previous posts and I can see where this forum is going to be very helpful. It didn't come with an owner's manual (although I didn't know about lifting the seat so I'll try that and maybe....)

A handy thing for catching the oil is a plastic paint roller tray, cheap, big and flat. You pour it from there into a funnel and plastic bottle.
Oil capacity is 600 milliliters (.6 liter). Don't overfill.
