:-[ I bought a new 07 Ruckus (50cc). I drove it 500 miles on gravel roads that were rather dusty. It finally would not start and the problem with the intake valve 6 thousands tight. After adjustment, fine for a while. At 500 miles later same problem. Dealer says i ruined the valves because I did not change the filter every day. They will not repair it under warranty. Is it likely that i damaged the valves by riding 500 without changing the air filter on dusty gravel roads. Are valves a problem in small Ruckus. I have driven my Honda 90 for years and never changed the filter.???? Help Phil

The Ruckus looks like an offroader, but it isn't really. Some light trail use shouldn't be too much of a problem, but the airbox isn't very sealed, so it's easy for dust and dirt to get in there. There's a few threads on here about that very subject. And valves are whoppy on these things for some folk...

Take you reciept or bill of salr to another dealer. As far as I know all Honda dealers will take care of warrranty work. There is nothing about the type of road you live/drive on that should viod your warranty. Filters last well more than daily, and if they did not the dealer had the responcability to inform you of the problem the first time you brought it in for service. My guess is the dealer will not get paid by Honda for repeat work on the same machine, so they do not want to do the job. I would also contact Honda USA and report the dealer.

You know what, I have gone to three other dealers, the Honda Center at the Seattle International Motorcycle show, and even called Honda customer service. The answer is always the same: That cycle was never designed for use in dust. We will never cover valve work for you.

yeah its just a faulty design probably because theres not even a speck of dust on the road where the scooter was designed. BillD had the same problem but never keep trying!

Are you telling them you rode it in the dust? I wouldn't! Just wash it really nice and clean...give it a little wax maybe and then truck it to another Honda dealer and say it stopped working and you don't know why. Perhaps give some lame story like it started running poorly last week when it got colder out and now it doesn't run at all. The Ruckus is a vehicle designed for on-road use only but dust certainly exists on normal roads so unless they have strong evidence to suggest you were bombing around on dirt roads then I can't imagine they'd say no. You might want to take the airbox cover off and clean and dust out of there and maybe toss in a new air filter before you take it in so it looks pristine.
About the valves, in general, the Ruckus valves get out of wack pretty easy. Some people never adjust their valves and have no problems but it's not uncommon for them to need adjusting a few times in the first few thousand miles until they're all settled in and then they usually stay put and don't need adjusting very often. There was another Ruckus owner on this site maybe 1-2 years ago that had the same situation as you. He got dust in his engine and supposedly ruined his valves and Honda wouldn't cover it...he was really upset. If you do a search for 'valves' and 'dust' or just browse through the 'oh no! my Ruckus is having problems' section of this site then you should be able to find his thread.
One thing I'm not sure about is whether your valves are simply out of adjustment or if they were actually ruined by the dust which seems unlikely but not unheard of. If you give up on trying to get this warrenteed then you can set about checking and adjusting the valves yourself using the lovely how-to guide in the 'how-to' section of this site.

Changing your air filter daily seems like overkill to me, more than likely, your valves need adjusment, follow the How-to and you should be OK
